JCM900s are rad and I've never understood why so many people lost their poo poo over them back in the day. Oh no! A diode clipping circuit! Aaaaaa! Hybrid amp! Hybrid amp! Anyway, just gonna throw this tube screamer in front of my ALL TUBE JCM800, like god intended

The thing about 900's is they appear in rehersal studio/gig backlines a lot due to being "undesirable" amps and I've played some amazing ones and some dogshit ones but I dont know what the distinction is. I THINK the SLX are the good ones and the dual reverb bad? But that could just be due to disrepair idk.

Mk III was the diode boys and the SLX replaced them with another tube stage. Haven't played either but there's less of a solid state stigma these days if the circuit is well voiced.

Ben Folds doesn't seem like a bad dude to me, but he seems like a dude that gets really sad and self-deprecating all the time, especially at any event where people are just trying to have a good time, and you talk to him about it and he's just like "that's just who I aaaaaam, I'm a piece of poo poo and no one should like me" and then instead of getting help expects that to be the end of it cause despite being rich and famous totally has no way of getting help or, god forbid, helping himself and you can only do that poo poo for so long, so yeah, five wives.

Also I think I have a guy this week buying my Gibson. Glad someone gets to use it. I'm gonna buy an Epiphone Prophecy instead I think.

I have a pair of 108s. They are so loud I only take one to rehearsal. At regular bedroom volume you must kill all the bass signal to the cab or it will be all boom. Turn up to rehearsal level and just be careful whom you point it at. They get loud. I've never needed both except when I wanted to indulge in stereo. Questions?

i am somewhat notoriously not into the beatles but i think that what people love the beatles for is their inventiveness and the fact that they grew and changed so substantially over their run, from 1963-1970.

XTC released more albums in their 22 year span (1978-2000) and flawlessly transitioned from punk, to solidly new wave, to psychedelic pop, and set a higher bar while they were at it.

the fact that a band that had a fraught career commercially could release Apple Venus 21 years in, and have it be a solid contender for their finest work, is virtually unheard of.

the amount of creativity they were able to sustain, and the degree to which they kept their music fresh, for such a long period of time, is like, a gift from loving god.

i don’t like that last album very much but other than that, they have one of the most pristine runs. discounting commercial success, they’re absolutely toe to toe with the beatles in every way that matters.

In addition to being married 5 times Folds also wrote Do It Anyway. While the song is a banger it's also about cheating even though you know it's wrong because you can't help it, and then there's a verse about telling your partner about it and absolutely crushing her.

I get the feeling he's a total perfectionist about music and if he disagrees with you or you make a mistake he gets really worked up and says some mean poo poo.

I remember listening to some very chill nationally-syndicated radio show in late 97 or early 98 where they were interviewing Ben Folds and having the band play songs, and also taking questions from listeners. Someone called in and they had a really long conversation about Brick, at the end the band asked if he wanted to hear a song and he was like "okay, well how about Brick?"

"No."

Hey thread, I'm here so one of y'all can talk me down from a dumb purchase or help me justify said dumb purchase. Go with your hearts. :v:

Bunch of years ago I tried getting into guitar: Got an affinity Tele, slapped a P90 in it, got a Yamaha electroacoustic, sold the Tele and bought a Casino, then around 5-6 years ago I just... stopped. Sold the casino last year in a fit of 'might as well', ended up doing some cleanup/maintenance and re-strung the Yamaha a couple weeks ago, been trying to remember how to play (I never got actually good -or even mediocre- at it, mind) a bit here and there. My main objective is just... "learn guitar", honestly. I have at this point, not been playing for longer than I actually ever played, so just getting back in there and play a bunch of different stuff until I go "oh yeah this is my poo poo" if that makes sense?

So of course my brain is already gassing me with "you should get an electric' (the excuse is so I can hook it up to my pc and play Rocksmith/gently caress around with BiasFX or something) and I've been eyeballing a Pacifica 012 for the past 2 weeks trying really hard to not impulse-buy it.

I await verdict. Thanks!

well there's your problem, never should've turned your back on the Tele. Get a new Affinity Tele (or the Pacifica if you didn't like the Tele shape/style, that's good too) and get back on that horse!

I knowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww :( I even still have the P90 I put in the neck and the pickguard for it, but the Tele Affinity is already 50% more expensive than the Pac012, and I'd have to take it to a luthier to put the p90 back in and that's already a bit over my 'impulse' threshold.

May just get the Pacifica and get a nicer Tele down the line.

Yeah, this is kinda what it's coming down to. I'm not in the states so everything's more expensive (and selection way more limited), but I have a job and no kids so I do have some disposable income so I could get a nice entry level electric without wrecking my finances.

Late to the party but XTC owns and was one of the bands I first heard as a teenager that made me realize that music could be meaningful and interesting. The video for Dear God was amazing to me when I first saw it way back on 120 Minutes. I haven't listened to them in years, I need to rectify that.

Andy Partridge may be part of the reason I stopped going by Andrew. Andy Summers as well.

Ben Folds may be a lovely person, don't know, but he did put together William Shatner's album Has Been, so I'll give him some slack

Went through my spreadhseet and another 13 instruments are going onto Reverb or to my dad to sell in his antique mall spot. He's been able to get $50+ for what I deemed unplayable offbrand Made in China acoustics, so it'll be interesing to see how quickly playable "vintage" Made in Korea ones sell.

Is it right I can find replacement strat bodies for £40 or so but Jazzmaster ones are more like £150-200? Is it just a matter of strats being more common? Found a Jaguar body on AliExpress for cheap, I think that's too different to support the longer Jazzmaster scale? Still might grab it for later.

This and an eraser or stiff piece of foam to hold the ball ends onto the pins while you gently caress around. They're really not that awful when you get used to them, but don't make the mistake of always putting the high E on last and then not having enough space to get your fingers under to hook the ball end.
