Imagine being the sort of person that gets mad that someone doesn’t know regional/internet slang, instead of just… explaining the word

I just found out what it meant from this thread...

same I would have guessed glock and by extension any pistol. definitely not hot dog

I also thought Glizzy was just a stupid name for a Glock, which kinda makes sense when you're calling bad rear end biker guys Bikies in some parts of the world. I legit thought throating a Glizzy was shoving a pistol into your, or someone else's, mouth, and never put alot of thought into some dumb internet thing.

I learned glizzy years ago from GIP, its not some new, or tiktok thing Its still fairly niche tho, outside some inscrutable memes

Glizzy is not niche. Anyone who isn't geriatric knows about glizzy

And there is our proof of being niche

i learned it from the pyf memes thread (or maybe funny pictures?), where there was a picture of jesus eating a hot dog and someone said "HE IS GLIZZIN" and it ended up as the thread title for a bit

Huh, you can actually eat cattails. Like, use the pollen as a flour substitute, things like that. That's pretty neat.

"Leftenant" isn't some rank I don't understand, it's just how British people pronounce lieutenant.

I'll share one of my dumbest moments: I had no idea until posting in a Star Trek forum thread how "tout de suite" was spelled. I had first heard a homonym of it as a child in the musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.* The inventor creates a tiny candy flute and sells it to a candymaker in an elaborate musical scene. The candy is called "Toot Sweets." Somewhere along the way I absorbed the correct meaning of "tout de suite," but managed to never see it in print, so in my head, as a fully grown adult, it continued to be "toot sweet." And so, when I energetically replied to someone in the Star Trek thread, who had posted some online resource or another, that I would have to investigate it "toot sweet," I finally learned the correct spelling. And provided some amusement to several posters. *Incidentally, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is as 1960's Disney as you can get without being a Disney film. It was based on a child's book by James Bond author Ian Fleming and produced by Bond film producer Albert Broccoli. It has music by the Sherman Brothers, who were a major Disney music duo.

Well, I guess I halfway learned a new thing because I thought it was tout suite. I dunno if the de is just smushed in quickly enough that I never noticed it, or if the times I've heard it just left that out by mistake. I'm guessing the latter.

It's French so it probably exists as a ghost of a phoneme that you never actually voice but it's wrong if you don't as well
