It just occurred to me that there's something creepy and pathological going on here. He vaguely knows how to run a company because yes while Tesla is a lovely place to work due to the racism, union busting and QC issues, he isn't actively torturing the staff.

I have two working theories right now.

Option 1: He's destroying the thing that embarrassed him publicly even at the cost of billions. When people started trolling and humiliating him for his 'savvy twitter leadership', he actively started torturing the remaining staff because it's not his fault that he stepped into a field of rakes and is hitting himself over and over. It's Twitter's fault and it has to be punished.

Option 2: He's realised that the right (especially boomers and the alt right) jerk him off ever harder when he hurts a twitter employee. In a climate where literally the entire world is realising that maybe he isn't the greatest businessman in the world and his mother is on twitter asking people to be nicer, he needs this dopamine hit. This is effectively a positive feedback loop that will only stop when he runs out of employees or accidentally says the wrong thing and the alt right turn on him.

I'm super into this line of thinking because its turning into a black mirror episode with how off the rails it's going, and that's beautiful.

I don�t think there is some kind of deeper understanding needed, he is just an idiot that has gotten more stupid because he has more money.

If Twitter was the first big thing he started after getting his PayPal money then it probably would have turned out just like Tesla, successful in-spite of Elon (because there are some competent people working there).

But because time has elapsed and HE (not necessarily his companies, in his mind) has become more successful, he had time to huff more of his own farts. Part of it is that the more money you get, the more people blow smoke yo your rear end so they can ride your coattails. You either are smart and self aware enough to realize this and stay somewhat humble, or you don�t and become an insufferable idiot who thinks they know everything.

Human history has shown it is very likely you huff your own farts and become insufferable at that level of power/wealth.

But there are other billionaires (Gates, Bezos, Steve Apple) and while they do things like funding vanity space programs while 90% of the world suffers from easily resolved ailments and loving over people when it makes them money, this feels like it's turned the dial up to "low grade comic book super villain who is deliberately loving over people even though it's costing him money".

This does give me an idea for a movie though: a billionaire falls out of his penthouse into a giant pile of garbage while dressing up for an "regular poor person" costume party. When he comes to, he's got amnesia, forgotten he is a billionaire and thinks he's just a regular internet troll.
