Remains the funniest moment in both of their careers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12fHeFA3nGg The comedic timing of Enho giving up for a few beats then deciding to flail because he feels like he should at least pretend to try

On things other than the extremely good verse, Wakatakakage beating Ichinojo was cool even if that was a concerning amount of blood. Great technique.

Highlights of the Basho so far have been Waka making a entrance on the Mutoh scale and Hoshoryu's sick leg sweep..

into day 6 and all of my guys are 1 loss, except the 2 loss Takakeisho. I don't think I have ever had a start like this and I am excited for it to all fall apart in week 2!

Takayasu's only loss so far coming to Shodai is amusing

To distract from me having yet another terrible basho I want you all to direct your eyes to Shonannoumi. The man joined sumo in 2014 at the tender age of 15. He has been toiling in the lower ranks ever since. But today fighting at his highest ever rank of Ms1 he defeated Chiyonoumi taking his record to 4-0. This means he will almost certainly be promoted to Juryo and will finally be a salaried wrestler after 8 years of grueling work.

My boy Ura having a rough time out there (not to mention the rest of my fantasy team) Now’s the heel turn though. Now is when he starts his run to 8-7. I can feel it

This basho has had some loving excellent sumo so far. Incredibly pleased to see Hoshoryu and Takayasu doing so well, along with Oho! Also happy that Kotonowaka seems to have found his stride after the first couple days. I'm really excited for week two. Also, Fantasy has been pretty easy to run this round lolMode 7 posted:Kenning can I please trade Nishikigi for Ryuden. If Ryuden is unavailable then disregard. Trade registered for day 7! Retiring mid-tourney seems weird. Wonder if that's happened before. Maybe he was planning on retiring after the tournament anyways, tweaked something and figured he might as well get it over with rather than try and tough it out? He didn't look like he was injured...

It's not that crazy. Takanohana and Chiyonofuji both retired partway through their final basho. That said, they were yokozuna who were both struggling with injury. I'll be sorry to see the cannonball go.

can someone remind me why some sumo dudes have their hair in the top knot and others dont?
|
# ? Nov 19, 2022 23:30 |

New wrestlers usually don't have long enough hair to be put into a top knot. If you see someone in higher divisions without a knot, it tends to mean they're rather talented, since they've been putting up enough winning records to get promoted.

The sumo topknot takes a surprising amount of hair to tie properly, so talented younger wrestlers can make it to the sekitori before their hair is long enough for a proper topknot. Here's Tochinoshin in a hair dressing demonstration, if you want to see how it's done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yD2ITvQZ65s

Like if instead of Hak destroying everyone on his way out, he'd gone 0-2 to start his last tourney and decided to peace out I don't think anyone would have been shocked.
