Sometimes, in a city this dirty, you need a real hero.
I love how all of these daytime TV shows sort of condemn Qatar for all of its horrible poo poo, then flip to "weyhey its the footie" without so much as a beat.

There was an interview with Bryan Cranston years back about Breaking Bad where he talked about a core theme being how much money would it take to sacrifice your morals.

I look at all these shits and can't help but think it's just a loving game of football that's enough for them to show just how much they care for the rights of others.

It'll be a sure bet that as soon as England get knocked out, there'll be nothing but bad press for Qatar and the Fifa corruption.

Even that wanker Badiell is getting in on it by creating a new world Cup song, while trying to milk as much as he can from the antisemitism train.

Unironically yes, or at least, fine with everyone that Musk wants to satisfy. The thing advertisers care about is whether someone can take a screenshot of their ad next to a racism. As long as it's at least a screen height away they want those ads there because chuds buy stuff (sometimes they even buy your stuff so they can destroy it performatively!). If this was the only change Musk made he could have probably threaded the needle of enabling his fans hate speech while satisfying advertisers. Of course he's decided to crash twitter into the ground for good measure so I expect a lot of advertisers will be sceptical he can follow through with his "no screenshots of your ad next to a racism" policy.

That is the main problem here - he can't promise any kind of meaningful content moderation because he's fired/lost his entire goddamned moderation team.

There is a effective 60% rate on earnings between 100k-125k, because you're both being charged at 40% and also losing some personal allowance. Then at 125k you're only paying 45% marginal rate, which is silly given it was 60% before.

Clearly the answer is to keep personal allowance static, and have a actual 45% band at 100k and 60% band at 125k.

I'll just about go over 100k for the first time this year, up from c60k last tax year. If I get a good bonus next year I might hit 150k. Last week I got in a taxi and the driver reminded me that i'd done a runner on him, must be 10 or more years back, when I couldn't persuade the cash machine to give me a tenner at 3am on the way back from the casino.

Now i'm considering how I can mitigate the tax impact of hitting six figures with pension contributons and salary sacrifice. But still i'll never be legitimately 'wealthy', having started paying into my pension and taking on a mortgage at close to 40. I'm pretty much at the top end of what I can earn now as an employee, having traded this far on my capabilty and a fair bit of luck along the way. The options I have for any kind of significant pay rise now come with signfcant risks, which I can't justify given what I suddenly have to lose.

So i'll do what I do now for another 25 years. Wake up at 3am an agonisr because my boss wants me to produce a PowerPoint presentation about what 'Big Data' really means to me as a person. Do what I can for the people who work for me and never quiet know if i'm doing it for them or because it helps me if they think I'm on their side. And hope like just that we all realise that its not the people in the next tax bracket up or down who are the problem,.

Is there any sort of tracker similar to the voting history of MPs where you can see what was voted on by parliament and the outcome of said policy change? Like a rolling list that's updated with the outcomes such as "brexit policies turning into -7% gdp hole, causing massive amounts of inflation, supply bottlenecks, etc"?? I know this won't be official because it's subjective, but any sort of credible resource will do.

OwlFancier

What does "wealthy" even mean though? Like unless you are paying £50k in rent you have more discretionary income in a year than I and most have ever had in our lives.

Like if you are being paid between £100k and £150k a year you should be able to put away enough money that quite soon you could quit your job and live a long time without ever going to work again. You might not be able to live in london when you do but you could absolutely retire to a quiet little place up north and leave a life of far greater peace and security than most of us will ever see in our lives, if you kept up a little work here and there you would be afforded far more time and freedom than the vast majority of people and you would never have to fear about where the food is going to come from or whether you'll be homeless next month.

If you tell people on normal money that you don't feel secure because you're not "truly wealthy" then a lot of us are going to think you're absolutely insane, is it insecurity because you don't have as big of a boat as the other guy you work with? You could very realistically become a literal millionaire with that income, and even sooner you could reach the point where you would have enough sheer money in the bank that you will almost certainly die before you spent it all, living a very comfortable life without senseless extravagance. That is like, the maximum level of "security" I could possibly want, that's literally what I dream of having. If I could expect to spend a good portion of my life just living in my own little place with a couple of rooms, and able to go out for a walk whenever I want to, always had food on the table and a roof over my head, that would be paradise. If your job is giving you anxiety, you have a route where you could stop going to it. The vast majority of people do not have that and never will have it. And I promise you we still spend our time being hosed up by our jobs, we just don't get anywhere for it.

So if you experience antipathy from people with less than you when you say things like that it's because what you are saying is simply not comprehensible to us.

I thought the same honestly. But getting to a six figure salary at 40 doesn't mean I can retire any time soon. I'm not secure at all, i've got to keep up with an increaslingly small group of high preformers at work or be shown the door. I'm down south, so as a first time buyer a semi-detached in a half decent area is the best I could get, which is more than I ever expected to manage. I absolutely cannot afford a boat. Is this like when Brexit and Trump didn’t cause racism, they just emboldened the racists who had previously been shamed into keeping their views silent? The Tories have gone full mask-off, gently caress the poor, gently caress anyone who isn’t already a millionaire, and now the people who earn six figures don’t feel the need to hide any more?

If I earned six figures, I’d be very happy that I was rich now, and I’d sure as gently caress keep it to myself and not complain about how hard it is.

I get that six figures isn’t wealthy but it still places your income above 96% of the UK population.
