Even if you ask a right winger wtf they’re so pissed about regarding woke, they’ll point to something like “critical race theory” which they claim is a method by which kids are taught about slavery and other pervious American sins and this makes the white kids feel bad and inferior. That’s their whole opposition, that white kids will be forced to feel bad when they learn about history. And then woke ideology forcing actors into movies. Like the reason Star Wars sucked recently was because Disney spent “too much time” casting black people or something? To be a culture warrior you need to basically not understand anything at all. But the propaganda mill is effective. I would love to know which exact “woke” thing Elon has him so pissed off (it’s definitely trans rights, 98% sure)

It continues to be remarkable how well folks rebranded woke into being something that's destroying culture. My understanding was it was basically just a word for being aware of systemic racism and privilege, two pretty basic concepts supported by heaps of evidence over the years. It takes such a leap to take that some pedantic people that overuse those concepts in an annoying way to "our culture is being destroyed because someone pointed out white dudes have generally run things". Everytime I see someone complain about it I just replace the generalisation with "a Disney film had two women holding hands once and I don't like that" or "I'm tired of Black Panther give me White Panther". If you define "wokeness" as being characterized by the dominant neo-liberal establishment group-think in our society, I do think there are criticisms to be made from a leftist perspective. Some examples: - Thinking politicians like Kamala Harris should be praised and honoured for being a black/Indian woman, despite the fact that she has little talent, and her career is defined by maintaining the status quo of enriching the ultra-wealthy - Accusing Bernie Sanders of being racist because he prioritizes an economic populist message - Mega corporations expressing token support for causes like Black Lives Matter, as a distraction to build public support while they oppress their employees and destroy the planet for profits But there is no way that the right-wingers apply this reasoning in their arguments...

I mean, they've launched a direct analog of Twitter before with Google Buzz and failed, convincing execs to relaunch a failed product would be difficult. And it would just be lots of mocking from the general public for doing the same thing twice, too. Also in general I think they feel really hurt with the failure of Google+ and are just super leery about social media products. (Except YouTube but that's quite different)
