Depending who you ask it's either called Xerox because cantrips can reliably function as a virtual "copy" of any of the major categories of cards in your deck (it's a land if you need it to be a land, it's interaction if you need it to be interaction, etc.) or because the original deck that used this principle became known as "Turbo Xerox" because everyone copied it off the internet, which was a novel concept at the time.

I didn't say I have a bad time, I literally don't understand the format. I don't understand the "winning doesn't matter, let's just have fun" aspect. What I mean is, if you're wanting to have fun, why do it with rules?

I love two headed giant, I love archenemy, I love the idea of multiplayer magic. What I don't get is that apparently people don't play Commander as an actual competitive match. If you're non competitive and your whole thing is "I want to show off my personality"... again, why not just make up all your cards??

I've been stuck in this pod for 2 days straight, getting so drat thirsty, I can barely announce my land per turn. there are more lands in play than there were cards in all out decks when it started. everyone is paying the one. nobody is trying to win. We have shown and seen each other's personalities so much we don't whose is who's anymore. If only someone here had copied the strongest 2 card combo deck they found online we could be free

It's cool and fun to pay for the creativity and rules balance you get from a company that has spent decades figuring out how to make these game pieces, instead of having to do it all yourself.
It means the rules you play by at your table are the same as the rules other people are playing by at their tables, so you can go from table to table and not have to learn a brand new ruleset every time.
It means you can play other Magic formats like Limited or Standard, and then when your cards aren't useful for those formats any more, you can still play with them without having to go buy thousands of dollars of out of print cards in order to build competitive decks in the legacy formats.
People buy and assemble jigsaw puzzles with friends, this also doesn't involve winning but instead just having fun; it's possible to engage with other people using a game where the goal isn't entirely about crushing your opponents. Although people absolutely can and do play Commander with a competitive spirit at their table, once they establish a common power level.

I believe this is sufficient answer, and I'd like you to understand that your just-asking-questions about why Commander even exists comes off as a backhanded swipe at Commander players, a thing that is unfortunately common in the wide world of Magic: The Gathering, and which mods have worked at trying to suppress here on SA. You may have been unaware but you're trespassing on forbidden ground, and I advise you to reverse course.
