Just thinking about it, there was absolutely no quality assurance done while the part was still on the jig. It would have been so loving easy to hold that laser thing and apply too much heat to those parts and sabotage the entire death star.

Turns out there was a shield in the thermal exhaust port, but a slightly misaligned piece made by Ulaf caused it to malfunction, and no one noticed it in the giant stack of Why The Death Star Is Stupid And Will Never Work problem reports from the engineers that nobody ever actually read because it was eight thousand pages long (and counting)

A sphere the most efficient in terms of surface area vs. internal volume.

Wow. Every interview with Gilroy is bang on point and it's clear that there's no happy accidents to Andors success. It has such a strong, singular clear vision at it's heart. The fact he was able to pull this off at Disney, in a series that appears to have been very prone to executive meddling is incredible.

I'm hoping Disney is taking notice.

That is a good take, glad he recognizes problems with mindless action. I don’t even remember why Boba Fett was attacking that train or why half the fights in Marvel shows happen. It was bold of Andor to trust the audience to appreciate how Cassian’s killing of two MegaCorp guards could fuel a whole season, without needing to have the Emperor chase him down an alley or whatever.

The small scale works so well, one TIE fighter buzzing the valley is tense as we don’t know if the pilot is indifferent, having fun scaring the natives, or closely monitoring a rebel cell. And when a Star Destroyer arrives there’s no prospect of our heroes being at a stage of dreaming of scratching it yet. I liked Rebels but a few too many Star Destroyers got blown up easily.

Bob's attacked the train to help out his Tusken buddies. It was one of the better bits of the series (especially of the bits with him in it).

It was one of the only good bits of the show. The train was carrying spice across his tribe's land and taking pot shots at his people for sport. The show would have been 1000 times better if it focused on Boba Fett uniting the tribes of Tuskens.

One thing that came to mind after reading Gilroys comment about empty calories with me was the scene where the Jedi protector lady in Obi Wan dies, and the swelling music and Kenobi's stereotypical 'Noo!' reaction and running in to hear her death speech.

Though arguably partly due to the terrible editing in that show, I felt like we had just meet that lady and it had none of the emotional resonance it was striving for. Within 2 minutes it was forgotten again for the next scene.

I don't understand why I can't harass people online. Seriously, somebody please explain why I shouldn't be allowed to stalk others on social media!
This is a serious post, not trying to troll: what’s the appeal of Andor? Like really? A lot of various sources on the internet are going on and on about how Andor is not only the best Star Wars show right now, but also one of the best sci-fi shows period. I’ve literally never read a bad take on the show.

I like sci-fi and I’m familiar with Star Wars so I binged it over the week but I couldn’t get into it at all. The show setting was boring and uninspired, the sci-fi was basically nonexistent, and there were no people I knew from the Star Wars movies so it could have literally been any other sci-fi setting.

I started the show not knowing who or what or where Andor was (I literally thought it was a planet) and ended the show knowing that the main dude was Andor, but I didn’t give a poo poo about him so the season ended as it began.

The One True Oden

I mean, the characters, writing, production design, and acting?

It's all the things that are actually in the show, not the things that are around it. On paper, Andor sounds like garbage, if you're only interested in either Star Wars lore or like... science fiction concepts (star wars isn't scifi, but I'm not going to reopen that argument). It's a prequel to a prequel (Rogue One) and isn't even about the protagonist of that movie. It is consciously avoiding the kind of Lore Reveals that are all over modern franchise media.

There's no larger reason for it to be good, it's just that every single person working on it did a good job.

It really was a well-handled segment that ended up being almost completely wasted. I recall this being roughly the journey I went on with those segments.

“Oh, Boba needs muscle now so he’ll get his Tusken buddies to help out. Badass Tusken woman to the rescue!”
“They killed all of them off. Well, now Boba knows and respects Tusken culture, so he’ll reach out to the people living closest to his base and bring them in to help.”
“No, they dropped the Tuskens entirely. Well, obviously what matters is that Boba was reborn after surviving the Sarlaac and was deeply changed by his experience with the Tusken people. And that expresses itself by… huh.”
“So the whole point of the Tusken story turns out to be introducing the villains of the season and Boba is going to kill them off, but without even mentioning getting revenge? What the hell?”

It’s Chekov’s gun: if you show a gun on the mantle in Act 1, you have to show it being melted down in Act 3 and never mention it again after that point. The big problem is that the rest of the show wasn’t nearly as good, so it came across as “we could have told this more interesting story but nah. Here’s Cad Band instead!”

Yeah, it's just an extremely well made execution on a pretty poo poo premise. For what it's worth I get not being able to get over the premise as a reason to not particularly enjoy it, though it seems like a fairly uncommon stance. In all fairness it is also being graded on a huge curve against all the other terrible, terrible disney star wars crap
