would prefer to sign Verlander on 2 years but he'll get three from someone and I can't blame Crane for passing on that

I don't believe DeGrom will ever pitch enough innings again to be worth what he's asking but if that's where we put the Verlander money I'll just hope he stops being hurt

I disagree. Addressing 1B is a lot more important than addressing SP. We get a full season of Lance with a full offseason program so hopefully he rebounds a bit and Hunter Brown has nothing left to prove in the minors

Framber/Lance/Javier/Garcia/Brown/Urquidy is stout

I don't know how you can possibly call a rotation whose starters will average out to 90mph on their 4 seamers (maybe more when Cool Kyle gets that average velo up to 88) "soft tossing" but you do you while I chill out here in the 'Christopher Morel NL MVP' zone

This is something Kevin Goldstein mentioned a lot on his brief return to podcasting. I think EW also had him on to talk about signing Yuli back in 2016.
Gurriel is beyond this generation's Jeter for Cuban players is my take-way. He's not just the most popular player, these players also emulate Gurriel on the field.

One thing I can't remember about Yuli: did he do a tune-up in the minor leagues before debuting with the Astros, or are his minor league games in 2016 because of a rehab assignment?

I think it's more likely he remains the 1B, Abreu at DH, Yordan the everyday LF

Which I also don't like too much. I guess in theory he could split time with Abreu at 1B and Yordan split time with Abreu at DH. If the Astros interest in Nimmo is real that goes out the window but I can't imagine they pay Nimmo. Conforto seems more likely since they already tried to sign him earlier this year

Big Mean Jerk

Well, of course I know him.

Signing Abreu and then turning him into a DH just to keep face for your current aging 1B is the dumbest galaxy brain poo poo.

Yeah, that's why it's real important, imo, that Yuli gets to go out on his own terms. They never benched him despite the fact that he was absolute dogshit in the regular (came back in the playoffs somewhat) and I think that part of that is the fact that if Yuli goes back to Dominican and starts talking about how much the Astros hosed him over around the Cuban defectors that it could hurt the chance of landing cuban prospects in the future. IDK how much that matters to these kids, they pretty much end up where they end up, but you have to imagine that having the dean of Cuban baseball and someone who could be the next generational talent from Cuba (not to mention that Aledmys Diaz is also huge in Cuba) on the same roster is going to make the Astros a big destination for Cuban prospects.

I don't think Yuli is too likely to poo poo on the Astros and the reason he wasn't benched is partly because who would you even bench him for
