La vita e bella (life is beautiful) is a good movie.

I remember it made a splash for a bit in NL when it came out, but I haven't heard anyone about it much since.

Mulan was an ethnic minority?

In the og stories she was coded as being from the northern frontier who heavily mixed with local steppe peoples and provided much of the ruling class of the dynasties where the stories were codified, and the scandal of her femineity wasn't the focus of the story it was her filial piety. Both the Tang ruling group and the Xianbei had a (limited albeit) history of female fighters/military officials, and even before Mulan goes to war the stories indicate she'd had martial training.

tldr Mulan is turkish and China should be united with Istanbul where she belongs.

which is loving hilarious tbh. it's still a relatively famous movie and, from personal experience, it's probably the top 3 answer people will give when you ask them to name an Italian movie besides La Dolce Vita and a Leone western.

So I told you guys I follow a chinese podcast with 2 anonymous Chinese officials one from the clandestine branch and one from the foreign affair branch. They talked about some details of the lockdown protests which are pretty interesting. Keep in mind I am not saying the lock down protests were organized by NED, but there are definitely some foreign interference fending the frame and steering the narrative. I would be suspect of any media or online posters that using the keyword "X color" "revolution" (such as the press release from DPP yesterday.)

None of these details have anything to do with the actual protest subject, but to do with the daily grind of a security officer, true detective stuff

* the leader/online organizer guys who yelled the "headline" slogans, usually like to bring their girlfriends, sometimes not even gf, just some ladies they like to impress
* girls who come in 3-5 groups usually like to stay in the darker part of the protests, cause it's easier to take selfies. And usually doesn't bring bouquets of flowers from each one, just one bouquet to take turn take photos
* people who get into trouble including (both this time and HK 19') are usually single males, nerds who wonder in the sites for too long. Point man guys usually get the necessary photos and pack it early, usually bring their own cars because they can't hall DIDI in the protests.
* People who stay the longest are usually not students, but "online influencer" or NGO connected people who need to stay late for street cred reason.

He said this time the organized slogans came in too soon, didn't let the angry sentiment brew for a couple weeks, Said the foreign interference didn't try to blow the protests up, but rather just get some kpi for CIA annual report. I agree with this speculation, because Blinken and Katherine Tai aret trying to go to China. Right now we are at the period of US and China trying to resume some contacts due to impending economy slowdown, only UK/Sunak/BBC are taking the duty of barking at Beijing.

in general, lots of protests are never started by the CIA, but are exploited by them after-the-fact

the conflation between "instigating a protest" and "exploiting a protest" is deliberately misconstrued by pro-Western media to make it sound like anyone criticizing protests as being exploited by the CIA are in the wrong, because there are genuine protesters in the crowd with sincere grievances, which is why the CIA didn't instigate the protest

Hollywood's existence is a result of a confluence of a lot of specific circumstances a lot of which would not be allowed to exist under the paradigm of modern capitalism.

Even than its something that Hollywood its self is actively trying to destroy it and move to just making everything CGI done by computer slaves. No need for sets, no need for make up, no need for costumes just make it all CG

Seeing leftists hesitant about overseas solidarity for the protests in China reminds me of my friend Vincent Wong's incisive point: dogmatic applications of 'The main enemy is at home' makes no sense for many migrants in movements in the imperial core.

Liebknecht's slogan 'The main enemy is at home' was for socialists living in the actively aggressor state of Germany in WWI, not as ahistorical, moralizing, isolationist dogma for Western socialists to withhold critiques of other states when they oppress their own working-class.

these people never seem to define what their "support" of these foreign protestors amounts to, and as far as I can tell it can mean only one of two things: posting online to their friends about owning tankies - i.e. nothing - or support for US intervention (whether that be financial assistance, economic sanctions, or military/intelligence operations)
