Even before these latest scumbags like Fuentes rose to prominence, the religious hard right in the US - in alliance with the GOP - has absolutely wanted to "overthrow the american government and install a christofascist autocracy". Unfortunately, this absolutely is the modern Republican party.

They see the Republican mainstream and establishment as traitors. the 'career' republican politicians have written themselves into a corner pushing these hosed up ideologies to polarize Americans, ever since Obama got elected, then went overdrive with it under trump now it's to the point that these AF/NSDAP people are able to seize the narrative and the republican establishment isn't able to control it because their base has become too radicalized and the GOP leadership is left playing Tim Pool, in too deep to back out with a career intact, not in deep enough to take the reigns. im not saying the republican party isn't to blame or complicit in this, they very much are, but at the same time, they don't share the same endgame goals or preferred methodology to achieve them. this is not a political bloc that has any intentions of playing the election politics game, they want to seize power and kill people
