Even before EW when I liked FFXIV I didn't think it's music was as amazing as most people did, but I think that's because I like music that really establishes a world than purely over the top boss themes and I always felt Soken had trouble with anything that isn't bombastic buttrock. Granted to give an idea of my tastes the two best songs in XIV for me would be Neath Dark Waters and Revenge of the Horde. Like XIV is still good but it doesn't have anything on FFXI.

FFXI had the best chill zone tracks, Ronfaure and Sanctuary of Zi'tah. XIV has better battle themes. Scream has made this raid tier infinitely more enjoyable to do over and over. Genshin is definitely up there though, Scara battle theme sounds like a lost Nier Automata track.

I like FFXIVs music a lot but lately even I think its a little bit overrated as well. To me the soundtrack peaked with the Heavensward Saga but that might come down to personal preference. Its the primal boss themes that everyone seems to love and get the most views on youtube that I actually like the least to be honest though some are alright ultimately. It also feels like JRPG music gets noticed more the more tracks have lyrics in them lately too which is why Genshins more traditionalist music being popular at all has come as a bit of a surprise to me. With regard to Soken I dont think he has trouble with lyricless tracks and non modern music so much as thats what gets noticed and praised online the most so it seems like every Saga starting from Shadowbringers on has significantly more of that style and less of what I liked from the first three Sagas. Standard FFXIV music tends to be extremely good, about on par with Genshin (wherein Genshin's music is easily the one unequivocally good thing it has going for it, when everything else is fundamentally flawed in some way), but where FFXIV would spring ahead in a close race is when they go all out on something like a major raid boss theme. The production values on those feels like the most effort put into any single game music soundtrack past and present.

Out of all the games I've been playing recently (FFXIV, Genshin, Wrath of the Righteous, Darktide, Persona 5, P5 Strikers), Genshin is at the bottom of the list for me wrt music. It's still good though.

I stuck my toe into Floor 12 of Spiral Abyss again and man, it's really irritating to be able to do the previous floor fine, but not this one just because of the inflated health everything has from being on that floor. The knights never felt dangerous, but I Nilou's bloom bombs felt like I was hitting them with spit balls.

Even the good songs like the casino theme begin to grate once they loop for the 10th time, and I think songs with lyrics make loops way more noticeable.

I got a better feather with HP% on it. Nilou now has 66k HP (with her hydro resonance buff included). She is basically unkillable.
