It actually makes a lot of sense that the YA extremists are always coming for Salinger and never Shakespeare, because plenty of Shakespeare is the same kind of poo poo you'd see in a YA book except in flowery verse (thinking of AMND but also of Much Ado About Nothing, Twelfth Night, and hell, Romeo & Juliet) Also Titus Andronicus is basically a shonen manga

They did it in the round, decided to make Aaron a clown instead of a moor (this is how I found out a friend of mine is terrified of clowns), every time the daughter opened her mouth blood would just spray out, the messenger is just the same guy that keeps getting killed, etc. It was actually pretty fun. especially if I was an old timey peasant drunk off my rear end and just watched a chimp fight a bear outside or any of the rest of that crazy poo poo the English did
