I was worried the Red Sox were going to replace Bogaerts with Turner.

I remember seeing a video about how Turner was a bad long-term sign because he heavily relies on speed and O-Swing contact: two skills that consistently fall off as players age. So who knows maybe the Phillies just picked up their albatros. Granted even if that's the case I doubt they'll care if he gets them a ring in the next couple years.

The NL East is absolutely stacked with those 3 teams. The Mets are the 3rd best team though lol

bawfuls posted:Petriello wrote a piece about this just recently. The tricky part is that Trea has thus far experienced zero speed decline, which is NOT what you'd expect from aging curves. So the $300M question is, how long can he keep that up, and when he finally does decline will it be gradual or abrupt? There's really no way to know. This isn't necessarily zero decline, just that nobody's caught up to him because of how far ahead of the pack he was. And yes, functionally that could be a significant difference. e: for a real world example, say he loses half a step but is still in the 99th or 100th percentile of sprint speed. The charts above would show no decline, but maybe he beats out 10 fewer infield hits. His average last year would drop 16 points if you take those away. bawfuls posted:I see what you're saying, but you should read the piece because he mentions actual sprint speed numbers too (ft/s). Same exact number at age 28 as at age 22. That's wild, wonder how long he can keep it up. Also you now really, really have to hope he doesn't have any kind of leg or foot injury.

I'll be really possed if the Cubs end up with the Swanson booby prize, dude can't hit and I'd rather just have Nico there.

Its Rinaldo posted:MARINERS SPEND MONEY YOU ASSHOLES I'd be very happy if their biggest FA signing this offseason is Jose Quintana. Brandon Nimmo seems like a pipe dream and I'd rather have Grossman/Duvall/(other corner OF who can hit slightly above average and be available 140+ games) than Haniger back.

Eh, Dansby changed his swing around 2020 and has gotten consistently more pop since, yeah he's probably not cracking .800 OPS but he's a GG SS who'll give you 25+ dingers a year. Also Dansby/Nico up the middle may be the best SS/2B defensive combo in MLB. I'd prefer Correa or Xander but I wouldn't hate a Dansby signing.
