russia is using its strategic bombers to strike ukraine, so they're obviously military targets. the idea that hitting those bombers is a big risk of escalation is really silly imo

One could expect Putin's reaction is to escalate in response- if offensive strikes inside Russia are a possibility in the future, it highlights the necessity of ending the war quickly to minimize human losses. Ukraine is more dangerous when they miss than when they hit, though (I'm thinking of their most recent strike on Poland*). There isn't a mechanism for Russia's citizens to vote or protest their way out of the war so we will see whether this rallies or reduces support for the operation.

*The Poland thing underscores the absolute madness of the Ukrainian military leadership- the fact they tried to let it play out as if it were a renegade Russian missile, to try and turn their regional conflict into a global one by invocation of NATO's Article 5. The US did demonstrate some intelligence by not going along with it; the reality is that while war is good for business, a nuclear one specifically is not.

They crashed a Cold War drone, of which fewer than 150 were ever built. I don't think the Russian public will be brought to its knees for the same reason the V1 didn't do the trick, only more-so as 10 000 V1s were launched.

The "inside Russia" "outside Russia" thing is a false dichotomy cooked up for domestic politics. The Russian public shouldn't feel any more "at war" when some airbase in the middle of nowhere gets it than when Kherson - legally a Russian city - falls to the enemy. The reality is that as Ardennes said, the overriding goal here is to keep the public out of the war as much as possible. That means that attacks "in" Russia will be "terrorism" - not war - and attacks in the liminal space of the Republics will be the "Special Military Operation".

Public support is the limitation here, sure, but insofar as a liberal state wants to avoid mass politics, and maintains that by providing stability. The Russian public don't have the ideologies in the public sphere - nationalism, socialism, whatever - to spontaneously generate mass politics, which is why February wasn't like July 1914. They have been depoliticized and won't demand an escalation or exit to the war as long as the conditions that create the depoliticization, and the legal frameworks, media narratives etc. that go along with it remain intact.

One good thing about the team responsible for suppressing inconveniently trending topics on Twitter being locked out of their own building is all kinds of stuff is allowed to trend now that never did before. My browsing habits on Twitter haven't changed, but I'm seeing a ton more #FreePalestine and the like. I'm finding it overall to be much more tailored to my interests, without the garbage that was being obviously pushed from on high and had nothing to do with any actual interactions.

I thought it was transmission fluid as it's the exact colour of transmission fluid also.

That looks like a ZIL-131 so it has a manual gearbox so no ATF, except maybe in the power steering system, which is presumably not enough fluid to account for that.

They exist in both petrol and diesel versions but are pretty old so it's unclear to me if they have aluminium radiators and no copper or brass parts in contact with the coolant, which is what you would use the sort of red organic acid technology coolant mlmp is talking about for. However, red coloured hybrid OAT coolants (good for both) do exist and seeing as the part of the truck that was damaged is the front where the radiator is and there appears to be a radiator hose on the ground next to the left front wheel, I'd guess coolant.
Sorry to continue this stupid derail, but seeing as I'm likely the only person here that knows my arsehole from my earhole in this regard I thought it vaguely worthwhile.

Or maybe it's because twitter isn't pushing certain topics anymore.

I once bought the red coolant by mistake instead of the green stuff and had to flush it out.

I have seen organic campaigns among Turks to spread a message on Twitter in the replies of random posts, often using a copied message. I know from forum posters and people I knew irl that they were doing this because it’s easier when English isn’t your first language. It could be something like that.

(sometimes it’s for stuff like Armenian genocide denial. Turks rock)
