Running no point.

It's villages that have been there a very long time.

There are also islands where the connecting roads get submerged at high tide.

Gilbert Road just north of Mesa, AZ is sort of in this category, except you aren't expected to cross it while flooded - it is/was expected to flood on a regular basis when the Salt River actually flows, and you'd either wait or take another route. They're supposedly finally replacing this with a proper bridge but also  at major water flow in the Salt.

We're able to monitor global warming here in south Jersey, at the Brooklawn Circle, less than 50-yards from the Delaware River.

When we moved here in 1988, it only ever flooded during extremely high tides with the river swollen from heavy rains.

Now: every high tide

https://i.imgur.com/U5ZL4Sk.mp4

Also: US roads were able to be planned; once cars came along, the old lanes & fords were either bypassed, eliminated, or bridged. In the UK, I wouldn't be surprised if many of these ford roads were laid down by the Romans.

Not even really about planning differences - after all, someone in the UK had to plan to build the bridges and roads to the north and south of the ford in question, just not fixing what ain't broken. It's not getting replaced because alternate routes exist AND because of the heritage values.

And yes, many routes would have been laid down in Roman times, but also plenty of routes probably go back much further than that. You'll likely find the same in the US too. River crossings for man and beast have been a thing as long as humans have been around.

Auckland has two streets called "Portage Road", one about 3km long, the other only about 1.3km, both named because they follow almost exactly the route used by Māori to portage their waka (canoes) between east coast and west coast harbours for as much as 800 years. To bring this back to AI - while there is a Māori loan word for car (motukā, you can probably figure out how that word came about), colloquially calling your car a waka is more common.

We also have a ford! It's in a tiny settlement serving maybe 100 homes, then unsealed roads to a regional park and remote beach.

They're called low water crossings, they're all over rural areas, there's one half a mile away from me. You are expected to NOT cross when it's flooded.
There are almost always alternate routes. (Like with the English one in the video)

I really hope they do a behind the scenes on this one, if just for that stunt. Bet Scotto was bricking it.

The detail work on the car is so loving good, and the livery is cool as gently caress too, love the flannel pattern. I've seen links to vTuned garage through samcrac's channel (I don't think samcrac is a chud, he's just a lovely, unfunny shill, but that's beside the point). So I think I looked at the vTuned stuff with the taint of hate that I watch samcrac.

After giving him another look, the kid looks to be pretty darned good. I rolled my eyes when he said he could weld the Ferrari chassis back together (and I still kinda wonder about that one), but I saw this replacement of side body structure on a Supra and was pretty impressed. The kid's a bit over exuberant, but clearly talented.

I have been a fan of Gas Station Encounters for several years. They're a convenience store in Medina, Ohio that documents people that come to their store and try to (and often succeeding in) steal from the store.

Tangential car content.

Here's their latest video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Li5CDT-hzNg

Well, I've driven by the store's exit maybe 8 or 10 times and always looked at it across the freeway, but today I had different business in that part of the state and I was driving right past the store. So I had to stop in.

It was absolutely surreal. It's obviously just as the channel shows and I walked in and knew the store like the back of my hand. It was fun.

(and can't post for 11 years!)

So everyone here knows LED headlight bulbs are generally bad in halogen housings.

Here's a solid argument as to why LED indicators are bad without changing the housing.

I'll still use them for side markers and license plate lights, and interior lighting, but I've yet to find any that don't gently caress with how brake and turn signals light up (mostly making them dimmer, usually making it difficult to tell if it's parking or brake lit up too).
