Yeah freesat is the only offline tv I have at the moment. The old aerial got storm damaged and was putting strain on the chimney so I had it pulled down years ago, then I got a new tv with a freesat/eurosat/whatever nub on the bottom and ran the sky dish that I never previously used straight into it.

It's a shame that the UK never got onboard with the whole Consumer Access Module thing for tvs because that's what most of them expect if you're doing it that way, but I think the only times I've ever used it is for Boris Johnson Makes A Vital Covid Announcement An Hour Late, the internet is down, and Tigers.

I'm weirdly warm.
Monday night I couldn't get warm for trying, jacked the heating right up and my living room was 25C. Last night I had the heating on but not as much. Today/tonight warm enough with no heating at all despite it being the coldest night so far (-1C expected to get down to -5C overnight) and my living room is at 19C.

Weird... or what?

On the assumption that kite flying moving BBC to all online is going to cause mega complaining once the hoipolloi get to hear about it, and working on the assumption that 'they' know that, what is the real 'phew they've done something less bad' move they really want to make?

In my block of flats only about 2 of 19 flats (including me) have internet. The TV is the main companion for several of the late 80/90 year olds in the block. So if it's not happening until 2030s that still means a lot of now - 70/80 somethings will be affected. And people in these age groups tend to watch a LOT of BBC.

If it's just BBC, presumably all the channels I usually watch will still be on the satellite (hoping freesat sticks around for years to come!)

It won't be some big bang thing - the over the air TV by aerial.may be but linear TV over multicast IP is already a thing. Plug the old dears' smart TV into the router and they won't notice the difference for a while longer. Worst case linear is strictly less functional than on demand so you can fake the former with like a script built on the latter. And as I say in two decades (one is optimism from the bbc) they will have/need a router anyway.

What's surprising is that a group of Tory MPs reported him to the police themselves.

Why would an ambulance be leaving the hospital?
In terms of why there's a shortage of any given medication -- pharmacies do not get this information as a rule. But the supply chains are just as fragile as every other industry with just as little flex, so a small increase in usage will lead to sudden shortages. And increasing the supply of drugs at the manufacturing end takes months or years.

We've seen a lot of antibiotic scripts and there's no increase in supply possible so now there aren't any. It sucks and I cried at work because I am tired of being shouted at. It is not my fault, people. I'm on a tenner an hour. I just work here.

I quite enjoy watching broadcast tv when I'm back at my parents' house, it's nostalgic and reminds me of a time when media consumption was less atomised

It's funny watching broadcast tv at my parents now, it's like being wrapped in a warm fuzzy blanket of Countryfile, antiques shows and 'gentle' comedy-dramas. It's perfect for old people to have on in the background as a reassuring hum while they potter around the house.

The Torygraph is running a story how it's disgraceful that soldiers who are getting paid less than ambulance crews will be forced to cover them over Christmas because of the strikes, not realising that the response was going to be "well the government should pay the soldiers more as well".

It is impressive how badly the Tories are misreading the mood of the country at the moment.

Don't soldiers also get subsidized housing and meals too while they're working?

Ed:

The Armed Forces and families are able to live in high quality subsidised accommodation both in UK and overseas, either at or close to their place of work. This recognises the fact that personnel move frequently, often to remote parts of the country. The majority of Army personnel and families live in this type of housing.

Isn't there a massive scandal ongoing with servicemen suing the MOD for accommodating them in dwellings that haven't seen significant maintenance since the 70s? (Because they were sold to a private landlord lol).

All my mates who joined the navy had living expenses low enough that they were able to buy houses when they got kicked out for shenanigans. Not nice living on a ship but any worse than an 18 year old's first flat?

Watching the Harry and Megan doc and it is almost entirely about how utterly loving dreadful the British press is. That’s it’s focus. Let’s see how many stories about that make it onto the news websites.

There's that monastery near OwlFancier that looks like you could fight a Green Man based boss in it, but in general there seems to be more ruined castles and great houses than cathedrals.
