Apparently Korean Air is still flying passenger 747?

Can anyone tell me if either of these two flights is likely to be on a 747

KE 660
KE 23

My itinerary says 777-300 for the first one, 777-300ER for the second one, but that's of dubious reliability. Why did Korea Air keep buying passenger 747 through 2017 and where are they flying them?

Five degrees to starboard!

Could you do KE017 (ICN -> LAX) instead of KE023? 017 is supposed to be a 747-8i.

When I flew JFK - ICN, we took a 747 there and an A380 back. I liked the 747 better, but it looks like they replaced it with a 777.

My Dad flew T 33s as an Air Force captain and was an instructor in the late 50s

His flight…team? was named Kitty Hawk

Thanks I'll look into that

Probably a fever dream, but do they still have a bar or lounge of any kind on the 747

That's the wrong question.

The question is why shouldn't we have a 747 with 4 massive engines.

I flew a Korean air 747-800 ICN to JFK a few years ago for sure.

The eldest 747 still in service is Saudi Arabian HZ-HM1B circa November 1977, according to the internet

1413 hours on 894 cycles as of 2021 supposedly. Seems... low

because the performance hit of running it on 3 of the current engines is minimal, don’t need to make them any bigger

But if we put four GE90s on it we could have a 747 with the thrust-to-weight ratio of an F-15

GeeBee in the middle of a GE90, maybe. Only question is where the fuel goes.

I think either the f-15 or f-18 does a vertical climb as part of a satellite destroying missile. You could launch a big missile from a 747

Well a super stallion has 3 T64 engines at 4,380hp each and a 79ft main rotor.

An LM9000 has 89,000hp or 101,000hp

If I did the math right a 101ft rotor would be 6.77 times the area of the 79ft one at 89,000hp

The ASM-135 was Eagle-only, and was only tested once five times but only once on a satellite.
