Glad I stumbled upon this early - I forgot you have to go into perks and activate the artifacts you get from the tower to get their bonuses. (T10, T20 growing reduction and +silver in the market ones so far.) I happened to be looking around to see wtf to do with the tower and found that by chance.

Whew.

Okay, so I have 1-9 on hand and am leeking away at #10. If I'm reading the Wishing Well right, probably my best bet tomorrow will be to throw nets at the Small Pond to get another #8, toss that at the Well, and have a 2/3 chance of getting either #10 or a #9 that has an equal shot at it on the next try. Once I've got #10 for part 4, I should just skate through the rest of the questline.

There is at least one 8 and at least one 7 is what the yellow means, but not in those spots. So just swap them.

Yeah it was 8707. Weird that if you guess a single right number twice in the wrong spots it'll highlight them both.

Heed my words and become a master of the Heart (of Thorns).
The vault is not Mastermind, which has the rules you describe.

The vault simply shows a number as blue if it is in the correct spot and yellow if it is not.

If one of your guesses had been 8888 you would have had a blue 8 and 3 yellow 8's, even though there is just a single 8 in the solution.

I just want to bop in to say thanks to in-game username MarcusSA who has been supplying me with oj the past couple days. I'm steadily cracking on exploring and farming, trying to build a stockpile per the get rich quick advice, while earning enough to get that sweet sweet sawmill. I'm halfway to Buddy's snowball request which will free up a ton of upgrades and make things an awful lot easier. Really enjoying the game still!

I think how it works is a weird hypbrid.

From my experience (just casual guessing, not systematic tests), yellow means "there is another cell with this digit that is not yet highlighted blue". So one single 8 can generate muiltiple yellow cells, but only if it itself is not correct (like in the original question). In your example, the 3 wrong 8s would "see" that there all the 8's have been correctly guessed and are now in blue cells, so the three wrong cells would stay unlit.

Next time for your third guess move all of your wrong answers and put "90" in the spaces where you have yellows. So 7890. This gives you 4 guesses instead of 2, because you know that 78 are in there somewhere. I'm not a stats person but this has been working out really well for me.

Seconding this, my third guess is always 8 and 9 and two of any yellow numbers.

"Jill was right! Beatrix would like you to try to get a runestone from harvesting corn now."

And now we dance.

Might as well; my remaining help requests are either slow drips (corn, wheat, trees, other time-investment crops, waiting for eggs and milk to build up), solvable via wood and wood by-products, fishing for gold fliers, or Buddy's goddamned diamond.

I'm at Blizzard Warning III-C and D and A Lot Of Trees IX. Which should I focus on more, since all three are crop-focused? (C wants wheat to make flour, D wants advanced veggies, IX wants pines and more pines.)

The Christmas quests are time limited, but there are a lot of corn quests in your future. I'd go for pines, maybe with wheat or broccoli overnight depending on how much you've increased your farm speed from perks and farm supply. When there are quests like Blizzard warning III-D that wants a handful of different crops grow those instead. And be glad that it's not yet hundreds of each!

So apparently they updated the items mailbox so that clicking on a group of items from someone collects all of them rather than one item per click.

I’m maxed on AC and I had 8 apples from someone and went to tap it 8 times and voided 15ac when it collected all the apples with a single tap.

Hah! I didn't know what the Golden Potato was for and just got 400 potatos for Strange Companions, where the next one asks for it... and I had it! Whatever those last 400 were I got it.

I'm at 7,299 mastery on potatos but no clue where I was when they release golden ones. The tower artifact really makes potatos fast though which is nice.

Is there a guide to what targets to go for to grand master stuff through exploration? I swear I remembered reading something. I'm at tower level 70 with 500 points and I'm really wondering how I'm going to get to 100.

The key thing is to find combinations that will work well together - green shields is a good example, you can use 3 of the highland hills drops together, and use the rest in a way that still makes sense without voiding too much or spending a lot of stamina in other zones. Wood->boards->planks, stone->bottles & iron rings, fern leaf -> green dye, amethyst -> amethyst rings. Stockpile purple dye/parchment and white parchment with the purple flowers and feathers respectively; once those are full you can grow some mushrooms to make purple diaries or slaughter cows to make leather bags for purple bags. Extra wood and coal from passive income can use up more white feathers for bottle rockets and explosives. The only exploring you might have to do outside of highland hills is hitting up cane pole for shimmer stones once in a while (this also takes some load off your farm for mushrooms). This gets you seventeen masteries to work on at once (some of which you might have already, but getting boards and rings to 1M for mega-mastery is still something to work towards):

-Boards
-Planks
-Shimmer Stones
-Glass Orbs
-Bottles
-Iron Rings
-Green Dye
-Purple Dye
-Amethyst Rings
-White Parchment
-Purple Parchment
-Mushrooms
-Mushroom Paste
-Purple Diary
-Black Powder
-Explosive
-Bottle Rocket

For other zones you just want to do something similar: find what works well together, and only grab minimal amounts of other materials from other zones.

After T100 you'll be needing to scrape together more GMs that require multiple zones. Also don't forget AK from dailies, regular (10k) masteries, and merit badges - these add up! Work on your sub-hour crops to 10k and all those combined is another 130 AK. Also a recent option is breakfast boost to get 5 GMs on the fastest crops relatively easily (although I'm on T128 and still haven't done this).

So close to getting Cecil to 60 friendship! 59.5 right now. Boy this took a long time. Yarn is way past grand mastery at this point.

Edit:

Thanks for this awesome post, Xerol! Hey, are you Xerol in game too? I'm still idling away on Amaranthine :)

I've completed boards/planks/rings but haven't done anything with fern/dyes or any of the rings. I'll have to grow more mushrooms.

SNATTER'S ALIVE?!?!
Day six trip report: Lanterns are go. Getting my Hay Field production up will be a new priority, as Twine seems to be my main limiting factor in crafting those. Pounding Mount Banon for Magna Quartz for my Magna Core gives me most of the other components as I climb towards Explore 70.

The rapid advancement phase certainly ended quickly, though I don't think I've ever seen a game push harder in so many ways to propel newbies through the early game quickly. I've gone from completing dozens of requests daily to more like three, as the crops and items required are increasingly timelocked. It's a good problem to have, though; feels like I've settled in and now can focus my attention on specifics.
