every single line is a whedonism, there's even a monkey cheese side character. the animation looks generic when its not a fight scene, and when there is fighting it looks like a shittier version of those hand drawn anime fights people post on youtube it's loving hilarious especially if you just got done watching arcane or edgerunners

Dragon Age and Mass Effect are probably my favorite video games, and I think the Thedas setting is really cool. I agree though that the dialogue is bad, and falls below the norm for the actual games. I also think a lot of the "adult" Western animated shows suck compared to legit kids shows like Avatar and Korra, Infinity Train, Over the Garden Wall, and Star Trek: Prodigy.

We've had Castlevania, Arcane, and Edgerunners recently which have all set the bar extremely high. It's amazing when people actually try and make things that are good.

The third and fourth seasons should have picked up with Simon. As-is the show got bogged down with really dull side characters like Carmilla's sisters or the Japanese vampire hunters. The third and fourth seasons are really bad in general compared to the first two. Hopefully the series that covers Rondo and Symphony is good.

Leave No Trace is the better version of the story. captain fantastic is such a weird loving movie because it simultaneously embodies the most extreme positive stereotypes of home schooling but also the most extreme negative stereotypes of home schooling the idea that a kid can fluently speak foreign languages yet not know the colloquial slang terms for shoes is just bizarre knowledge has to be applied in order to be maintained but most of the showoff stuff the kids do has no relevance to their daily lives and they have almost no context for even being able to understand why that stuffs important now leave no trace on the other hand one hundred percent owns because instead of being about yuppies going full harrison bergeron it's about a normal dude who doesnt fit in with normal society and doesnt want to fit in with normal society teaching his daughter the survival skills necessary to live on the margins consequently shes super competent but only in her narrow background and also self aware enough to understand her own shortcomings the kids in captain fantastic are basically superheroes by comparison in terms of their improbable schizoid skill sets and personalities

i didnt like captain fantastic when it was new but the movies assumptions have become very perniciously repulsive to me over the years now that i can compare my home schooled niece and nephew to literally any other random kid i meet and shudder in internal horror about how grotesquely ignorant they are about any subject that isnt considered a priority by the youtube algorithm
