Those days are probably past but in the 90s/00s in Southern minor league hockey it was essentially a way for dislocated fans of a team to find each other. You went to a Birmingham Bulls game in your Peter Bondra jersey and got to meet some other Capitals fans.

I never see blackhawks jerseys at red wings games, though you do see Lightning jerseys and stuff. Sometimes it’s that an athlete you like is now on a different team, or that there’s a franchise connection like with the lightning and wings. I see quite a few Detroit Vipers jerseys and quite a few more Rogle BK ones, and those aren’t even the same league of hockey (though again there’s a direct connection). Don’t seem to see many AHL jerseys though…
