Not content with making communism the best system, the new V3 patch appears to have set all capitalists political power to 0

So... Playing V3 is praxis?

After some initial teething problems, I'm enjoying UBOAT more than I thought I would. Couple questions though: 1) Is there any point to plugging random military ships other than money/medals? To be specific, I encountered a convoy of some destroyers and corvettes and since I was bored I used two torpedoes on one of the destroyers. The explosion was pretty and evading the rest of the convoy was fun, but it didn't count towards my tonnage objective. Am I at least making things easier for me in the long run by destroying military ships or am I just better off saving my torps for freighters? 2) How am I supposed to handle the research aspect of the game? Do I just have to wait for having 6+ officers so I can leave one behind or do i want to get the projects started as soon as possible and just do some boring patrols while I'm an officer down?

1stGear posted:After some initial teething problems, I'm enjoying UBOAT more than I thought I would. Couple questions though: I like it, though it has a while to go before it matches SH III / IV with mods. I greatly prefer the Type IX and it's not in the game yet, nor are a lot of the ports, aircraft and escorts I think are needed. Still, the crew and interior are great, the model of the Type VII is good, boat dynamics and so on are addressed by workshop mods. To answer your questions: 1) Historically, no. Engaging escorts was a waste of torpedos and Germany was fighting a tonnage war. It happened, of course, but it was generally discouraged except as a last resort, or as a spread of torpedoes on the flank of a convoy, taking out the near-side escort. Later in the war, acoustic torpedoes were developed in the hopes of targeting escorts but that reflected that by then the U-Boats were the hunted, not the hunters. 2) It's up to you I suppose. I try to aim research to unlock things at their historical dates. If you devote researchers to it from the beginning you'll have radar detectors in 1939 or something like that. It's really a matter of preference, but generally it doesn't hurt to wait until you have a spare officer.

I have this DLC for the PE, but haven't tried it yet. I can't think of any training value that I can justify using it for during work this week, but I want to take a crack at it. Has anyone tried it?

SH3 with Grey Wolves was probably one of the best experiences that i've had with a subsim ever. I also liked SH4, even unmodded, since the flow of the campaign was so different from SH3

I'll have to check that out. Some of the funniest poo poo that happened to me in SH4 was basing out of Manila and losing the base there and limping home at quarter speed to Surabaya and barely making it there before my fuel ran out.

Some of the funniest poo poo that happened to me in SH4 was basing out of Manila and losing the base there and limping home at quarter speed to Surabaya and barely making it there before my fuel ran out. What's up S-Class buddy? It's worth it to have working torpedoes early in the war IMO. The S-Class also handles far more similarly to a Type VII U-Boat than the big Fleet Boats, is as about the same size and same endurance so that's interesting too. The Aleutians campaign based out of Dutch Harbour AK in FOTRSU is fantastic. My morale does need boosting. For quite a few scenarios a while back, I converted BLUFOR units to the RCN/RCAF equivalents at the time, so "what if Canada had to protect Kuwait in Operation Vantage?" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Vantage - but it's a surprising amount of work and research. You can't swap units out 1:1 because the RCN never had that many available ships, so sometimes it's just a Canadian destroyer flotilla replacing a British one, coalition warfare type deal. You get interesting enough outcomes just from that, in terms of scenario variety, that I've switched out BLUFOR for the Marina Militare or Marine nationale, did a frankly embarrassing amount of research into both navies in the Cold War. It's a lot of fun. Did you know Italy refitted a WW2 light cruiser to fire Polaris nuclear ballistic missiles? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_cruiser_Giuseppe_Garibaldi_(1936)#As_a_guided_missile_cruiser. That's an interesting capability to play around with in scenarios. This is all parenthetical. I did try uploading these scenarios before, but I would have to remake them without Comms Jamming as anyone without PE can't open them. Now that I think about it, I'm sure there's a Canadian war plan for the Falklands kicking around somewhere. I don't think I'll be allowed to see it, but that would be an interesting prompt for scenarios. US plans for intervention in the Falklands are wild. If I remember they were going to just "give" the Brits a carrier if they lost one, have the USN crew "transfer" to the RN or something. I don't think anyone could have stopped them, it's not like the Soviet Union cared about Argentina, but that's a wild escalation for a few islands worth of sheep. How do you ethically source human bones for dice? Are there that many d&d for love nerds out there donating their corpses to consumerism?

Slavvy posted:How do you ethically source human bones for dice? Are there that many d&d for love nerds out there donating their corpses to consumerism? I mean, there's probably at least one. If they can get a big-boned one you could probably really stretch it out. Sincerely, I assume you can buy them on the unethical but maybe technically legal gray market/aftermarket thing from people who donate their bodies. Remember the whole controversy where some lady donated her body to science, and "science" turned out to be blowing her body up with an IED to test out some body armor? Because you don't actually get to pick what you go to. Some plastic surgery college just not giving a gently caress and selling a pile of bones to a dice maker sounds like something that could happen.

What was the dice company that had to suspend their most popular dice because it was clearly made of the same stuff as holograms on US currency? It was a purple die iirc and the $100 bill.

LKMT is great because it feels like a much more desperate struggle against the german quislings in Beijing and whatever other pretenders around you, compared to the industrial meat grinder death march in north america. Edit: Although it's a lot easier now with euros finally sending you volunteers, and other warlords using lovely division templates. Edit: Also did the gimmick CSA run, but the best I got was July 28. Forgot that I could/needed to edit the militia templates. Because the new division cap makes it super difficult if you're only using the crappy default one.
