Trip report on the Make Every Shot Count penance: I did the "shoot off every bullet but one, Alt-F4, then reconnect and land one hit" trick, and I got it even though I accidentally picked up a full stack of ammo from an ammo crate after reconnecting (thanks to az and wargames for helping)

Phlegmish posted:Time for me to try out a new class. Which weapons would you guys recommend for a low-level Zealot? Depends on what you mean by low level. The first 10 levels are basically going to be a bit of a slog, I found most Zealot weapons to feel a little weak at first, but the Devil's Claw is fine until you unlock some of your class specifics. The Evis has been talked about to death and for good reason, it's very good and should unlock in your teens. The 1h chainsword is okay, you probably have used that on another class and ehhhh. But yeah I found the basic 1h sword to do a lot of work, and I still take it out on occasion at level 30. The axe, you kind of need one that works for your playstyle before you can really make it shine. The heavy sword is bad and you should avoid it. As far as ranged goes I prefer guns I can whip out quickly like the revolver or the smg, both of which should unlock relatively early. That said, the shotgun is a very good all-rounder with surprising damage at range. The rifles are more situational, since you really shouldn't be doing all the long range work but sometimes a vet just isn't available.

Sometimes when you run two close combat weapons, you get stuck with your thumb up your rear end hiding behind a box while a bunch of gunners and scab guards pin you down like a helpless baby. Don't be afraid to try out a range of weapons, and don't save your money for the perfect weapon or whatever. Specialization isn’t the way to go most of the time, because poo poo happens. Having someone else able to quickly take down a sniper because your vet is bogged down in melee is invaluable. And the less situations where you have literally no agency, the better.

Boltgun has limited ammo but is point and click and destroy anything. You can shoot into a Bulwark’s shield and kill them through it. The lasgun has 70% of the killing power with five times the ammo. Most importantly, the lasgun gives you an effective weapon for long range shooting. Hear a dog or a mutant coming? Shoot it down. Sniper? Shoot it. Team of three vets and you’re feeling useless? Shoot with them. The flamer feels great when the circumstances are right, but often the right circumstances are about the same as the time when you’d just wade in with your melee weapon.

I can't get enough of the chain axe as the Preacher but I also don't usually run missions higher than 3 difficulty because I'm a widdle level 25 baby who doesn't have a group to run missions with so I play with randos. Is my love for it going to bite me in the rear end later? Like am I going to find out it actually really sucks in higher difficulties?

No, just learn to use your push-attack and the smart time to rev. I will say its heavy attacks aren't super useful very often in comparison imo but I need to play with them more.

I just had an Uprising difficulty random match where the audio cue for the horde played constantly and seemed to be playing over itself - like multiple audio cues at once - and the horde event lasted for like 5-10 minutes, just a constant stream of enemies. Eventually it ended and the map continued as normal, but our kills at the end were like 1800. Is that a bug? As designed? It was pretty hectic even on uprising difficulty

Yeah a lot of people seem to hate it but a nice orange chain ax with good perks it just awesome. I run it a lot on Heresy and I've never had issues. It handles hoards well enough though slower than a big cleave weapon but it takes down heavies very quickly and you see more of them on higher difficulties.

Are "Low Intensity" missions bugged? Every one I've tried in the past week has been a literal non-stop constant onslaught of both specialists and shooter hordes. Like, literally from the minute you first engage until you eventually wipe, waves and waves of things never stop spawning, it's nearly impossible to push forward because as soon as you eliminate the 6 scab gunners, there are 5 new ones.

Had a poxburster spawn in one of those shipping containers on the desert level that instantly blew up and throw me off a cliff. Anybody else getting carried a lot in Heresy+ by Zealots with combat knives? Not sure what the deal is but they're like Sonic just dashing everywhere and being seemingly unkillable. Here are a few screenshots I was able to grab in the very brief seconds where I could take my hands off other more important keys in the 4* Low Intensity mission I just ran ok we've already been through a lot by this point, and there are 5 specialists visible in the upcoming room. Rough, but not too out of the ordinary for 4* So we move in and we start fighting and ugh The Ogryn and I somehow manage to keep pushing forward and rescuing the other two each time they die double ugh then we have to wait for the elevator and, oh goddamnit Then we wiped right at the end so I couldn't even view our final kill count but I would guess easily 3000+ Not pictured: the 3 back-to-back bursters that had just exploded on us and the 3 ragers that were about to run around the corner. This pace does not ever stop. It's constant. You don't wipe out a group of baddies then move forward, you constantly fight through an endless sea of enemies of all kinds. It's been like this every time I've tried a Low Intensity mission on any difficulty recently. e: I have wiped on 2* Low Intensity missions with full groups of level 30s recently. deep dish peat moss fucked around with this message at 09:31 on Dec 14, 2022 |

Knife zealots are the powersword/bolter vets in that it's the "ideal meta" because you can reach ridiculous toughness damage reduction numbers by stacking crit/bleed, and knives apparently have the highest base crit% and can roll traits to stack bleeds easier. Low intensities 4 turns into like 2 difficulty. It's an easy way to level up since the low intensity still counts as a mission modifier but it's way easier and you get a ton more exp. I've never been stressed at all during low intensity; like a lot of the end areas have a lot of waiting time simply because mobs aren't spawning and we're killing them very quickly.

Near as I can tell, Low Intensity does not seem to remove or reduce the specials the game throws at you for dawdling. So if you're not maintaining a pace appropriate to the base difficulty, it is very hard, but if you are, it's a breeze.

The number of options is kind of irrelevant if all you want is a staff or a specific melee weapon and the shop is filled with everything except those 2, every hour, for days. Crafting doesn't increase power rating beyond a certain amount either, so even if you were able to find a weapon unless they plan to add actual upgrading of the modifiers / rating of a weapon, even with crafting in you will still need to interact with the shop. In V2 I can whip up a a grey of max rating, upgrade it to orange or red, and reroll it to what i want, given i have enough mats, and I can start playing. For my max level dudes in Darktide I just log in every hour and see if the weapons are want are there this time, and if they have at least one of the perks i'm lookin for. Lootboxes were basically vehicles for getting crafting mats so you could craft what you wanted, with occasional nice stuff inside. Whether it's store-only or lootbox-only, it's bad because it doesn't have the failsafe for getting the weapon you want Also it isn't "broken brain" to want to have realistic avenues for progressing in a game with progression systems
