That’s what everyone has been saying for awhile - what is holding back Twitter, a microblogging platform you primarily use on your phone to write small shitposts, is lack of 1080p video

Couldn't you already do this by simply uploading to Youtube, a platform much better equiped for handling high volumes of video data at 4K even, and linking that? It plays embedded in the tweet and everything. Doesn't even cost $8 a month and it doesn't have the most obnoxiously useless volume control in video player history.

The reason i haven't been spending money on twitter is the lack of 1080p video in those tiny little twitter video boxes.

Hell even if you just used Twitter why would you over YouTube or twitch. Both of which are much much better for longer form content

can I just say the video specs war is dumb?

like doesnt youtube, netflix, and porn all do server side stuff and autoset your videoplayer to do 400 or 700? like even if youre on a fiber connection and a wired connection. never mind that people watch most stuff on mobile screens or barely have the ability to even tell the difference.

my favorite part of twitter videos is that if they're short enough they don't have time to dynamically increase the res past 120p so it's just forever a video of a few grainy pixels

One of the first things musk did was to start fishing for popular video makers to migrate to Twitter by offering them a higher percentage of monetised earnings than YouTube or twitch. Of course a genius of musk's caliber isn't concerned that 100% of 0 is still 0.

Netflix put an article out a while ago on how their tech works, it's surprisingly complicated, but it makes sense considering how much traffic Netflix drives

New character limit, but you have to watch one ad per 100 characters before the tweet appears. Pay $8 per month and it goes down to 1 ad per 200 characters. $16 will get you 1 ad per 300 characters. It goes up from there.

It's the Napster argument. Regulation is effectively useless to curb usage of a product/system that provides a better UX.

What they are missing is that, just as in the Napster case, what will inevitably happen is that regulation-following banks and others will eventually match the UX of the disruptor.

That will ultimately be the real legacy of crypto: forcing banks and others to actually give a poo poo about their users.

The thing with Tesla's valuation is that it's always been a bunch of pie-in-the-sky bullshit. It's not like Elon went "we sold 100 trillion cars this quarter!" and everyone believed it uncritically based on lots of faked revenue (there is a little shenanigans I'm sure though), it's the idea that Tesla will lead the world into a new era of electric car ownership and will win the race and become the dominant carmaker of the 21st century. Tesla has been quite open about the fact it was unprofitable until recently and its units moved is a drop in the bucket of the overall auto market. There is no obvious fraud besides the delusion its biggest investors were foisting on themselves believing Tesla not only will win the electric car sweepstakes, but that it already has.

Another reason why Tesla's valuation doesn't evaporate despite delivering absolute garbage results is that the big money is in selling off carbon credits. Append the rules on carbon credits to "you can only sell up to 50% of what you use" and Tesla will disappear before the ink signature on the legislation is dry.

waffle iron posted:

The other selling point to retail stock buyers was that Tesla would use their first mover status to rapidly create a full line of cars at all price points with high production to become a consumer driven monopoly on electric cars. Then the finances were so bad/tight that they never moved down market and prioritized building top level trim cars. Their year over year production numbers have increased, but the eschewing high levels of factory automation has hurt them very bad.

Reminds me of the story about Ford going to England to have a looky-loo at the Rolls Royce factory and being absolutely :psyduck: at what he saw.

It means " 'Cash is king' but which cash is the cashiest cash around?" and the answer is usually the American dollar, hands down. Ease of access, conversion, and lack of volatility are key factors, and it's trying to make the digital cryptocurrencies into some kind of "faster than cash" concept, because it's all electronic, you see, ignoring the conversion or lack of volatility aspects.

sounds small but you do a few jet trips, buy a few gizmos, purchase a car and some actors to stage a threat to your family and by the end of the week you've spent a million bucks, and that error adds up.

in a couple weeks you could buy horse with the amount lost to error.

Can't find the story off the top of my head, but the short version is that Rolls Royce at the time still hand-made and hand-tuned their machines(particularly the engines for airplanes), and had little to no precision interchangeable parts in any of the construction(which seriously fucks up a military standard). U.S. sent a rep to see why the engines were poo poo and it turns out "hand-crafted" with no precision machining is bad for mass-production.
