In short, yes. There's a bunch of articles on NIH / PubMed, that support bright light therapy as being a first line treatment for seasonal affective disorder. This isn't like blue light filters, or other stuff like that. As always, your mileage may vary, and placebo effects are real. But it's generally the first thing a doctor will do when you notice that you're getting depressed or anxious in the winter.

Is there a good toaster oven with convection that works as well as an air fryer? Alternately what's a good air fryer there's like 500 brands.

There's a Breville smart oven model with an air fryer mode. I have one without the air fryer and it's still the best (convection) toaster oven I've ever owned. I think it was recommended to me here

The only bad thing about the Breville oven is that there's very little space for a drip pan if you're going to air fry. To fix that, I use a different basket (the ones that elevate a bit like Ninja's) and put a sheet pan under it.

Anecdotal I guess, but based on a recommendation from these forums almost 5 years ago I got a 4 TB external Seagate hard drive. It's been plugged in and running alongside my desktop most of that time, but frequently switched around, moved around, uhhh dropped a couple times, and it still is super dependable.

I think maybe I'm more in the market for an air fryer then a convection toaster oven... 400 is double what I was thinking of spending. I have a toaster that works fine and my oven works fine too... They just don't crisp up random frozen stuff. Is there a good easy to clean air fryer for less than 200? Single serve size is fine... I just need it to be easy to clean. There's about 100+ versions and the online reviews are all bought it seems like.

We still have that, but it's for quick things like bacon, or reheating fried chicken. I've been using a 1TB Samsung T7 shield everyday for a while, I throw it in my bag daily, take it to work, use it there, bring it home, plug it in, swap stuff around, etc. Rinse, repeat for months. Absolutely zero issues and it's more than fast enough for what everything I do(regular files, movies, shows, music, podcasts, etc). If you're looking for something dependable and reliable, anecdotally I highly recommend the T7 Shield. I wear Meundies lounge pants and t-shirts around the house but I live in the UK and the shipping and import duty make them significantly more expensive than they need to be. DKNY’s micro stretch briefs have been way better than meundies for me and last for drat ever vs MU which developed holes pretty fast, especially for the cost. I’m not sure what their status is vs the UK but it may be worth a look. This said it was kind of a pain in the rear end to find some when I looked a bit back so they may have discontinued them.

I had one meundies, and it didn’t have a fly, so I never bought another one. It also bunches up in your rear end and then developed holes after about 5 years. The rest of the drawer is filled with ExOfficio and lately Pair of Thieves which you can buy at any Meijer or Target

I have a very specific need for a product that I am having trouble finding. Basically I have a record player that can output via bluetooth and 3.5mm jack. It can pair fine with my little bluetooth speakers, but I want to play the audio over my TVs (Samsung The Frame 2021) speakers. The TV notably does not have ANY audio inputs, only HDMI inputs, so there is no 3.5mm option available. The TV also has bluetooth but will not recognize the record player when I try to pair it. It doesn't even show up on the device discovery list. It looks like the TV is only setup to use bluetooth to connect to input devices like keyboards, mice, and controllers, and output to bluetooth soundbars. So I think what I need is some device that can adapt 3.5mm or bluetooth audio to an HDMI output, but I'm having a difficult time finding anything. When you search for a combination of HDMI, Bluetooth, or 3.5MM, the results are a million devices for using bluetooth headphones with older TV's. Does anyone have any idea if such a product exists? I had a friend with a high end audio receiver like 20 years ago that was able to do this, so I assumed it would be like a $20 device these days.

I'm going to try the $12 option first and if that doesn't work I will have to ramp up my spending I guess. Could you connect the record player to a computer line in and stream it to a private YouTube channel (or twitch stream or some other streaming option) then connect the tv to that? It'd be laggier and would require a little bit of setup each time, but it'd be free

SpartanIvy posted:I have a very specific need for a product that I am having trouble finding. As mentioned above you're probably best off looking for a VGA to HDMI with audio because that's a fairly common and hence cheap thing created to let laptops & computers talk to HDMI displays. You may also need a VGA signal generator so that it treats it as an active input: https://www.amazon.com/Signal-Generator-Tester-Signals-Battery/dp/B093FW1PN6/ Per the manual https://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/202209/20220930095221952/OSNATSCA-8.4.0_EM_Oscar_Nike_Kant-SU2e_USA_ENG_220825.0.pdf you can sound mirror from a mobile device to the Frame, but that's basically all it says - probably needs SmartThings to mediate. If you have an old phone or tablet with a 3.5mm jack you can probably get it done that way. You know, this is loving ridiculous if you think about it. We're trying to figure out how to connect a connector that is, at a minimum, 40 years older than the device - (the Walkman used it in 1979, never mind that the original design for phono jacks dates back to 1877) and having to jump through all these hoops. Gotta loathe the RIAA.

From what I understand, having one of those jacks doesn't necessarily mean it can output to speakers (even those that are powered, like in the TV) without additional amplification. There's a bunch of info about it out there, e.g. The vinyl thread could help too. This might be old news, just thought I'd mention it in case it ends up sounding like butt when piped through the TV speakers.

I didn't think of using that as a mediator between the record player and the TV, good idea. The VGA signal generator is also pretty clever. When I was in college we did all kinds of crazy poo poo with S-Video, composite, and VGA adapters to get things to work. Now that everything is digital it's a nightmare to get devices to talk together if your use case isn't exactly what the manufacturers wanted.
