i think what elon is getting at (but not actually explaining) is that the movements of plane N628TS are public but the fact that N628TS is his plane isn't a matter of public record, it's officially owned by some shell company so it should be totally fine to make a @N628TS account as long as it doesn't name elon anywhere

Imagine watching all of the criticism and dunking that Elon's gotten for this dumbass behavior over the past ~24 hours, including even Weiss and Greenwald backtracking on whether it's good to ban reporters, and thinking "Ben Collins was wrong to criticize Elon". Stuff like this is why I no longer watch corporate news at all.

This whole dumbfuck event got me to sign up for Mastodon but the server splitting seems really unintuitive. Like I got pretty quickly how to visit someone elses page on a separate server while logged in, but A: a shitton of people are not gonna be able to figure out why when they go to 'mastodon.social/@buttfarts' having signed up on a different server, they are logged out and their settings aren't saved etc. And B: even as someone who figured it out, the extra steps between 'clicking a Mastodon link to a different server (which is gonna be like every single link)' and 'having the ideal user experience' just seems like too many hoops to bother going through. Am I missing something about this or is it as much of a usability hell as it seems? I imagine there must be an extension or something that automatically redirects you to your appropriate server URL for whatever page you want to view right? The syntax is simple, and the main reason Mastodon can't do it is because when you register on server A and then open a server B link, server B has no way of knowing you're registered on any other server. Which is half the point of Mastodon but god drat is it annoying as gently caress to use.
