and yeah tungsten carbide is really hard but its a ceramic, any crack will rapidly propagate through it and make it shatter.

Depends on the ring material. Gold is easy. Tungsten carbide... not so much.

Tungsten Carbide is actually the easiest one, just not for cutting. You just give them a sharp tap with a hammer and punch or use a dedicated tungsten ring breaker, which is a tool that exists.

I'm friends with a senior ED nurse and she says they can get basically any ring off. The only one she's uncertain of is mine, because it's Inconel and they've never tried it.

Edit: damnit, beaten. I couldn't remember what the Ring Cracker was called.

I mean, remembering how my dog would handle hardwood linoleum floors (walking was fine, running was a recipe for disaster), I'd imagine an ungulate on asphalt could be similar enough that even if they knew it was a solid surface and not a stream, they'd still wanna try to clear it with a minimal of contact.

Tungsten jewelry is fairly brittle so it can shatter under stress. Not a bad option for those that do work with their hands while wearing a ring.

Gold alloys will bend/deform under the same stress since it's malleable. Malleable can be problematic if it bends into a form that doesn't agree with your finger.

Though you should just take off your jewelry if you're doing work that could bend/break your ring.

old friend of mine had to retire from ballet dancing because a basketball hoop took his ring finger. turns out male ballet dancers are really only there to hold women up dramatically, so missing a finger makes you worthless as a dancer. he just does choreography and teaching now. nicest guy in the world

The tubes are fiberglass so the coating is probably a heat resistant paint.

Wait you're saying you can cut off the ring??

Fun fact. Hospitals have these because when people get burns on their hands you have to cut the rings off because their hands swell around them. I actually got to use one of these on a patient one time that came in with burns on his hand.

If you get your wedding ring stuck on something high up and fall with your whole weight on it, that finger will pop right off!

You can also just use a pair of hardware store vise grips. Just turn the screw so it clamps onto the ring lightly, then just release it give it a half turn or so and try again, repeat until it cracks.
