This is a private website dictating its own private rules, not a publicly owned corporation banning mentions of its competitors, so the McDonald's/BK comparison doesn't stand

FTC rules apply to all companies doing business, it's not predicated on being publicly traded, and the Sherman Antitrust act has no provisions making that distinction. It'd be also one more thing the FTC can get into Twitter's rear end about since there's likely a huge shitstorm brewing about the consent decree with regards to user data security and privacy which, uh, is kind of being strained if not broken.

Private just means non-government, which includes both publicly traded and individually owned companies. Anti-trust laws absolutely apply to individually owned companies. Why wouldn't it? How many owners a company has has nothing to do with anti-competition practices.
