Inspecting your entire deck after a game to make sure no stickers are still on them would be pretty sucky. Getting a game loss a couple of matches later because it turns out you missed one would suck even more.

lol have you played with stickers? they end up all over the place anyway, they stuck better when you didn't want them to than when you did. stickers is more "should-be-digital" than conjuring a basic land.

it's the first day of hannukah and the mtg arena store has 70% a bunch of display styles for cards with "light" or "candle" in the name also I just pulled a copy of Urza's Saga from the list slot in this brother's war set booster box!

Mezzanon posted:gently caress I have to learn standard for the RC in Vancouver in March. There is. It's main creatures are djinn and tolarian terror though so it's sort of the biggest graveyard deck in standard, to the point that a turn 2 hearse from the sideboard is almost game over (as long as they don't do something stupid like actually crew it for you to bounce). It is very cheap though since djinn is the only 4x rare, then you have a single otwara and maybe a single swirling mist. Something like this: https://aetherhub.com/Metagame/Trad...onstructed_meta I have more counterspells instead of delver though. Algid fucked around with this message at 15:14 on Dec 19, 2022 |

Alright that list looks great and significantly better than what I was brewing (Delver, bird lawyer, suspicious stowaway, that drake that draws a card when targeted, plus 24 counterspells/protection spells/combat research)

Cheap and fun mono blue is right up my alley.

I’m qualified for San Diego and wasn’t sure about the format but I’ve been having fun in standard. I think there’s some effort now from MTGO grinders to actually innovate. This past weekend’s challenges had much more variety. Maybe it’s temporary but cool to see there’s room for some decks that aren’t black midrange piles, even if that’s what I’ve been playing on Arena.

I've been enjoying it too, despite about half the field being Grixis midrange (I like the mirrors) in my LGS and Arena. I think Standard is not close to being solved yet, and we'll have ONE in February to shake things up before the RCs.

I didn't see this mentioned last week with all the Phyrexia set spoilers, but March of the Machine will be a test of Hearthstone's mini set model. https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/march-of-the-machine-arrives-in-2023 March of the Machine :Aftermath will be a standard legal 'microset' releasing with 6 card Collector's Pack or 5 Card Epilogue boosters.

I think it would've owned if all the loving angels cards in the "wow the angels are gone from this plane what's up with that" had been in an aftermath set instead of mixed into the set combined with a story that did a really bad job of explain "angels are back now", actually, so I think "X: aftermath" is a great move.

We could call it a group, or maybe something like a "block"

I'm not big into the lore, but I enjoy when planes get revisited in future Commander products. Little nods like that to the larger multiverse are great, and so are further exploring set mechanics in ways that would be too much for the base set.

Are these mini boosters going to have a miniprice? Are they making mini booster boxes for a miniprice or do they just declare every card in the miniset a rare and increase the price?

I don't know what WotC's deal is lately, but they seem to be absolutely allergic to offering complete products in favor of making buyers gamble. The regular boosters aren't much better; Description Epilogue Boosters continue the story in between sets. Each lore-packed booster guarantees a foil and a Showcase card! The March of the Machine: The Aftermath Epilogue Booster Box contains 24 March of the Machine: The Aftermath Epilogue Boosters. Each Epilogue Booster contains 5 cards, with a combination of 1–3 card(s) of rarity Rare or higher and 2–4 Uncommon cards. In every pack, a total of 1–2 card(s) of any rarity are Traditional Foil. Looks like there's no commons in the miniset?

And $119 is even cheaper than the where the initially priced Jumpstart.

Though I guess this new set is even smaller than the old final sets from each block I wonder if they'll end up with 2 normal sets than an aftermath set and we'll be back to the original system for lore reasons, but not called blocks anymore
