well i just bought an american vintage ii '57 blonde strat my american pro ii may be up for sale soon GAS GAS GAS edit: blonde guitars... yay or nay...? I know the '57 touches are not everybody's cup of tea.. with the larger neck profile and gloss instead of satin back neck but man does it sound and feel exactly like what I want out of my Strat. I have also been thinking for a while that choosing rosewood (as well as sunburst) for my strat was a mistake Sorry for gear chat ethanol fucked around with this message at 00:41 on Dec 21, 2022 |

Either the whole bridge/body was mis drilled or the pocket was off. Maybe the neck is off? Oh man, just saw the linked photos as well. Did you buy that new from a shop? Unless human error was an accurate historic detail of 1957 you paid way too much money to let things like that go unnoticed. I would bring that right back and show the shop, request a refund or a different guitar unless you want them to gently caress around trying to make it right, which they might not be able to. In my opinion, that looks like a full on manufacturing defect. ethanol posted:well I'm kinda mad but also I don't want to return it for little aesthetic issues it took me all night to find The neck being misaligned is no small aesthetic issue. It's a $2k guitar. I wouldn't accept this kind of defect on a $400 squire let alone something of that value. Considering most $200-500 guitars come out of the box defect free, I wouldn't forgive this. Verman fucked around with this message at 08:45 on Dec 21, 2022 |

Sorry to double post but what do you do when you go between guitars with different scale lengths because I picked up my Strat after playing only my arch top for two weeks and everything feels off now? Is there anything like changing string gauges to make them feel closer?

You can mess with string sizes to get tension to be similar across all the guitars. Or just play your guitars. It's fine. That's what I do. I have 6 and they are all either gibson, fender or baritone scale. After a couple minutes you get used to it. Eventually you won't really notice it.

I would be pretty nervous about spending my money there again if that's not the the case. How they handle this issue would determine if I ever spend money at that place again. If they handle it well, maybe it was just a mistake. If they give you trouble, take your business elsewhere. They should never sell b stock without clearly letting you know in advance and it should be discounted. Trying to get away with it for full price is sketchy. While I generally prefer to buy instruments in person to feel it before buying, I would almost rather buy from sweetwater where they look over their instruments than deal with that place again.

Well I called earlier and they are giving me a return label to ship it back. I asked them to checked for replacements and said nothing in avii is arriving until September so they agreed to just do a refund. They’re a big shop with thousands of guitars and not enough employees and it was still in its factory shipping cardboard box so they probably only glanced at it for 1 minute before handing it to me. I’ll probably just have to wait and see if I can find an avii that’s not messed up from sweetwater or have my more local shop order one for me (they said their next one arrives in July) Edit2: also I’m heavily considering just switching to g&l for my maple board needs, if I can find one to demo ethanol fucked around with this message at 20:13 on Dec 21, 2022 |

warmoth order shipped sooner than i thought it would! i think they looked at it and went "oh, an HSS strat pickguard in tortoise. just like everyone else" and grabbed one that was already made and put it in an envelope :p excited to get my guitar wiring unfucked and to see faustus again. thinking of getting a behringer clone of a boss compressor, or maybe just the real thing, and putting it at the end of my chain, too. i've been interested more in clean playing lately, but i wanna be able to control the levels a little more. on an HRD with a humbucker, there's like... no compression happening :p there's so much headroom between the pickup and the speakers. just something to stop it from being literally, physically painful if i do a really hard strum.

The Leck posted:I’ve never had an amp with an effects loop, and so I’ve always gone straight in with whatever pedals with no real problems. It’s not like there’s any shortage of people who have gotten great tones this way. It was pretty funny to me recently watching the TPS guys realize that it’s not necessarily unplayable that way when they ran a reverb pedal into the front of a plexi assuming it would be garbage, and it sounded like… a guitar with reverb. Effects loops are nice if you want a clean signal for reverb/delay in a high gain amp. Dirt in your delay tails can sound cool if that's the sound you want but sometimes it will get super muddy and note definition can suffer. Dead Kennedys had a pretty clean, if a bit overdriven guitar sound and delay straight in the front sounded great with what they were doing for sure. Not really guitar related but I just watched a youtube of Holiday in Cambodia and the comment section is a hilarious disaster zone of people not understanding that anarchists don't like capitalism or authoritarian communism and being very confused and angry about the "contradictory" lyrics

Went back to Fender, was with them for 8 weeks before I said gently caress this, took a store credit and got an Epiphone LP modern with a bit of change left over for pedals. I was back in at the store I bought it from today and the dude who owns it said it STILL hasn't come back from Fender and this was 4-5 months ago that I bought it. On a side note, Epiphone have come a long way since the mid 2000s, I love this guitar so much. The tapered neck profile is the tits.

I've spend a disturbing amount of time poking at the details of the Vintera / Vintera Modified, and Classic / Classic Player variations of the Strat and Tele. I've owned the first 3, so I can definitely speak to those necks being largely the same other than the finish. theres two other problems with that guitar though.. 1: it's a 2019 model, not sure how they still have it, but is that worth $899? I think it's $1199 new (on the other hand given the hosed up avii maybe precovid fender is the way to go) 2: im guessing the pickups will be dissapointing after the avii, but I could swap those? ethanol fucked around with this message at 16:56 on Dec 22, 2022 |
