Nah gently caress adding vinegar to poached eggs, I don’t want them tasting like vinegar.

Grab a sieve and crack the egg into a small bowl. Then tip it into the sieve and gently roll it around. Scrape the underside of the sieve to remove any loose water/wispy bits of egg white (the newer the egg, the less there is of this - why new eggs are best for poached). Then tip the egg out and back into a small bowl. This will get rid of most of the part of the white that goes wispy and everywhere.

Yeah nah this creates more dishes unnecessarily. And for Christs sake don't forget to immediately wash the sieve/strainer or keep it soaked lest you enjoy cleaning dried egg out of sieves.

I just made the seinfeld lego set in honor of Festivus and it was super satisfying. Last year I did the Friends cafe and now i probably have too many lego sets, i can't buy another one without completely changing the vibe of my living space.

Nobody around here wears masks except for me. Lady at the post office joked about my mask and getting some fresh air when I took it off to verify my ID to collect some mail. I'm like, it's a week before Christmas and I don't want to catch anything and miss the meetup or worse spread it to my family so why not wear a mask?

Cold ham, cold chicken and salads here, we did turkey once but nobody really liked it that much. Mum makes a hell of a fruit cake though so we'd every year have that with custard to finish up. Covid has meant no more Christmas with my parents though and life with the baby in tow is always a grind so this year we'll be eating whatever I can be bothered cooking.

It's generally been a cold cuts type of affair with salads and stuff. We frequently also have a cooked prawn entree type of deal thats served with a mango salsa. Goes alright

5kg of the largest Spencer gulf king prawns available, two dollar shop party mix and a carton of beer was my family tradition.

Now that I’m married I also do a roast or sv turkey breast roll, roast rolled pork loin/porchetta with carrots potatoes and peas and my wife makes the worlds best Pavlova.

Then I go buy a marked down leg of ham on boxing day and eat nothing but ham/Swiss/coleslaw/pickles on fresh bread rolls for the week after.

Also Garbo is a literal Mountain King and if you choose to ignore food advice from someone who cooks cassoulet on the regular tbh it says a lot more about your deep and abiding character defects than it does about him.

Aldi turducken, and the leftovers get used for pizza toppings on boxing day. Maybe one year I'll have a crack at making my own turducken from scratch but I'm lazy and prefer to spend my cooking bandwidth on the dessert (pannetone pudding). Usually I'll buy two turduckens and stash one in the freezer for a mid year treat, but this year they sold out before I bought the second one :(

Ham, roast turkey breast, roast pork, roast chicken, roast spuds. A couple of salads and bread rolls. We usually have pavlova and cheesecake but I found a killer trifle recipe so I'm making that this year.
