I think the problem is just that the only way for it to work against a team that has similar talent is if there’s some element (QB/RB) that makes that RPO dangerous enough that you HAVE to cheat it one way and create an initial option space. When I can gamble that DJ won’t make a throw, that’s a bet I’ll take every day of the week. When I can gamble on him missing or the receivers having stone hands, even better. There’s nothing built in after that initial threat that in any way forces a choice past the initial move.

I think that's a great point and explains a lot about how good Penn State was under Moorhead. Barkley was a generational talent and McSorley was supremely competent.

I'm going to be really interested to see how it goes as Wisconsin overhauls its identity, as it feels like the first huge shift of the transfer portal era (I discount Lincoln's USC here because I don't think the Trojans had as robust an identity prior to him). Even under the underwhelming(?) Chryst, this was a regular new years six team.

We've seen programs stumble under switches in the past, but part of that was retaining the old roster and waiting for better fitting recruits to mature. Going to be curious if the portal alleviates switching pain or if first season stumbles lead to attrition that sets the program back a few years (though even then I can't picture them cornhusking).

SBNation did a look into Stetson being a better QB than folks give him credit for:

https://twitter.com/SBNation/status/1608814591093444608?s=20

I have been on the Stetson train since he took over last year and saying that he was a pretty good QB that is frequently overlooked due to the other dudes on UGA's roster. I like that they ding his height when he was the same height as Bryce Young when standing next to each other and Young is considered an elite talent (to which I agree). I dunno, I feel like some folks should put some respect on his name and just accept that he is a better QB than folks think and that while the system has helped him, he has actually developed in his time as getting actual starter reps.

I don’t think anyone thinks Stetson is a bad qb, people were just rightly laughing that he was in the running for the Heisman when he’s not even the best player on his own team.

If he can learn to quickly spike the ball to kill the clock, he'll already have a step up on Wisconsin's previous best transfer QB.

No, plenty of folks, UGA fans included, thought he was dog poo poo. The Heisman thing is whatever because it has turned into more or less a QB award when it should have been Jalen Carter this year and Jordan Davis last year in NY. Stet got dragged last year despite having numbers strangely similar to Bryce Young.

I'm really disappointed in the losing season but I can't be mad at all at how the bowl game went last night. OU came to play and covered the spread against a more-talented team. Our run game looked really drat good (for the first half, anyway) and with our recruiting I'm cautiously optimistic OU will bounce back either next year or (gulp) the year after--our inaugural* SEC season.

*Still not officially going in '24 but it sure sounds like OU and Texas are

I wasnt expecting much with Bijan out for Texas and it went kind of as expected. Hard to get too worked up over an alamo bowl either way.

Ewers showed promise this year but it got really exhausting watching him miss deep throws and last night capped that off.(yeah there was also worthy dropping it but ewers missed a bunch too) I hope Manning is the real deal. I'm still pretty meh on Sark but he is gonna get another year at least and I guess im somewhat optimistic with this recruiting class.

It kinda sucks bijan was wasted on this team but whatcha gonna do

Stetson hasn’t had a year anywhere close to what Bryce did last year, which is why he’s still being hyped up even after a down year. Bryce also has an NFL toolset, despite being tiny, so he’s a more interesting case than “guy who was pretty good on a stacked team and will be working for a management consulting firm next year.”

He’s just got very “Big 10 QB” energy and I don’t know of any other way to put it.
