Sweetwater is awesome - besides sending me root beer barrels when I order something for $5, when your guitar is on it's way they send you pics of your actual guitar. I'm getting this beauty delivered on Monday:

ColdPie posted:What am I looking at there? Nylon acoustic with a tele body shape? It's a thin body nylon acoustic with narrow-ish string spacing and a sound hole on top facing the player. Tim Henson (of Polyphia) signature. If I understand it right, Tim had some old weird Ibanez like this he liked, but the original line was a complete failure. So Ibanez decided to go conservative and apparently did a pretty small production run initially, but the sales just blew up and now there's a massive backorder log for them. The inlay is indeed the "tree of death". Ibanez did a good ad for it too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fch1tUtXc8I On a non-gearhead note, I spent a lot of time doing some of Bernth's picking workouts the past month or two. Boring as hell but I really could see daily improvement. Last night I was going through some tabs and stumbled upon "I am a viking", and realized I could loving play a good part of it. Maybe this "practice" thing is worth looking into further instead of just noodling. Clayton Bigsby fucked around with this message at 22:32 on Dec 24, 2022 |

Definitely post about this when it comes in, I’m super curious how it plays and sounds. Mainly if it can get a fuller nylon sound, it works amazing for Polyphia stuff but they go for a thinner tone and I haven’t heard anything from it with a lot of low mids. I’m on the verge of picking up an 8 string .strandberg*, I’m really happy with my six string Metal NX I just got and want to have a low-weight 8 to jam with. One thing is, I tried an NX8 a few months ago at the guitar center in NYC and it played very poorly. Awful action, really stiff strings, sounded thin, just all around unfun. But the six has been the opposite - action was a tad high from the shop but I now have it super low, and it feels slinky as gently caress. So it’s great for leads and legato runs. I’m leaning towards a refurb or used as that gets me to ~$1400, which imo is a fair price for these guys. Just worried about QC issues or it feeling as bad as the NYC one did. There’s only one way to find out though, so expect a post in a month or so where I detail if this was a dumb decision! If it does work, I’ve got six guitars to sell though… my collection is too large (16 guitars, 2 basses) and I don’t even play half of them anymore.

I'm finally starting to get back into guitarin' after about a year away from it. I'm not a fan of Justin Guitar (for dumb reasons, its not for me) what's are some other resources? I'm not looking for super beginner stuff. I've been playing to get over the hump of super beginner stuff and I can do barre chords slowly and sorta kind of some solos/lead stuff if its a pentatonic box thing. I know there's that Modern Method for guitar by William Leavitt, but I don't know where to jump in with it. Does anyone have any examples? I can read standard notation and have far more theory knowledge that I don't apply to anything. I'm looking more for "Here's an application of [technique] in [song]". Give me something that makes me good at switching between chords even if its in Ab major or some poo poo. I already have guitar aerobics somewhere around here, somewhere. For reference with Bass, I really liked studybass.com and bass buzz on youtube. Bassists just seem to have their poo poo together.

If you like mainly Rock and Metal(and some other stuff too, Dawes has some fingerpicking stuff and things like that), Riffhard is absolutely worth the subscription. There's lessons and stuff up from a lot of cool dudes like John Browne, Wes Hauch, Dean Lamb, Dave Davidson, Tom Quayle, etc.

I can’t vouch if they’re better or worse than the Jazz one though.

Fender Play is worth checking out. It’s similar to Justin Guitar, being video-centric, but no Justin if that’s your main gripe.

Learning shell chords and getting used to finding triads on the fretboard is something I've wanted to do but I never thought it'd be that simple. Def want to get away from super muddy barre chords in general

Haven’t posted in the guitar thread for awhile. For the last year or so I’ve either been playing my acoustic or using my electric just to sample little things to my other electronic instruments. My 9 year old nephew has been playing acoustic for a year now, got a fender strat and Marshall solid state for Christmas (my parents spoil the grandkids) and is already playing it all day. I want to play with him when I visit so I decided to finally get a real amp again and get back into traditional playing instead of just sampling chords to other stuff. After noodling with a few Fender, Marshall and VOX amps in my price range I ended up ordering a VOX AC10 from the official store on Amazon. Got the last one in stock on sale at 399. Feeling really good about that bang-for-buck. It comes tomorrow.

Modelers are amazing but, at the risk of sounding like a cork sniffing blues dentist, tube amps have a certain ~*feeeeel*~ that just isn't quite there yet with digital amps. Its worth having to put up with the occasional service to have that feeling now and again, even if no one listening could ever tell the difference, at least to me. I know its dumb but cool poo poo doesn't always make sense and tube amps are cool poo poo.
