silence_kit posted:Yeah, air travel used to be something only rich people did. Deregulating the airlines is a huge reason why now most Americans can afford to fly. The people who complain that government is stupid and corrupt are the ones who actively work and vote to make it so. You're literally looking at the results of the alternative right now; things get worse, no one is punished and there is no incentive for anyone to fix them, and the government pours billions into it anyway which goes nowhere but into executive and shareholder pockets.

I mean, with the internet do we need Hooters anymore? VvV True. Also the locations are horribly userous (ripped panty hose = pay for a new pair from the employee bathroom dispenser) and have gross body standards for employees so gently caress em. I'm going to guess that Hooter's had been running on momentum not having competition since the 80's, and now is faced with competition from Twin Peaks and Tilted Kilt. IDK, I've been to Hooters 5 or 6 times in my life, and the food wasn't great, and the clientele was mostly boomers loudly trying to impress the staff.

Yeah I think the decline probably has more to do with people simply thinking the idea is kinda gross combined with an increasing disdain for chain restaurants in general.

Hooters was doing well enough at one point in their existence to buy a hotel and casino in Vegas. They only sold it a few years ago, it's now the OYO.

The whole model of buffalo wing restaurants is struggling. Wings got real expensive real quick from the glory days of 25c special nights in the late 00s.

Fly a mainline carrier in business class and you can have all of that and complimentary peanuts. Air travel used to be something you dressed up for, because it was a luxury and priced accordingly.

I had to look this up and a few clicks later I learned about this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smokers_Express quote:Upset not only by the non-smoking policy of most major airlines but also by the quality of other amenities such as food and in-flight entertainment, Walts conceived the idea of a "smokers airline". His company would not only allow smoking on flights, but encourage it by handing out free cigarettes and "full-size" ashtrays during flight. The airline also advertised free headsets (for listening to in-flight entertainment) and "real food for real people", which consisted of hamburgers, pizza, and steaks.

I grew up in a small town and it wasn't until I was like 25 that I learned Hooters isn't a topless thing. I get sexualizing your employees, but... doing it this way felt gross to me. If they're naked, that's one thing. Or even if they were wearing super sexy outfits. But they're just wearing shirts, and shorts. I guess they're tight fitting, but it still falls way in the "normal clothing" category for me. It just seems like a place to provide you a safe space to eat wings and be super fuckin creepy without recourse.

FlamingLiberal posted:Yeah the Planet Hollywood thing has been going awhile It's actually pretty complicated. The Aladdin had demolished their old hotel and casino and built a new one in 2000. Planet Hollywood started building their own hotel attached to the casino a few years later. By 2007 the Aladdin was bankrupt so Planet Hollywood bought that hotel and casino and abandoned the one they were building, selling it to Hilton. So the Planet Hollywood hotel and casino has had "desert paradise" theme since then while the Elara (Hilton) behind it has a hollywood theme.

My FiL from bumfuck Vermont asked me to take him to a Hooters like it was some kind of big deal. Apparently when the raciest thing in town is the Aubuchon’s, Hooters seems exotic. Fast forward 12 years and my newly out of the closet teen daughter wants to go to Hooters too. Somehow the experience disappointed both of them.
