Depending on how you hit the deer, anywhere from a whole deer to a quarter deer can be salvaged.

If you hit the front half of the deer, you can reasonably harvest as much as your average hunter will.

In grad school a classmate of mine tackled a deer at about 40mph when it tried to jump over him on his bike. He refused transport until his brother got there to claim the deer. IIRC he broke a lot of both his and the deer's bones.

Rednecks are another species.

Sometimes, it really depends on the specifics of how the deer was hit. They can be anywhere from completely ruined to having a lot of usable meat, you just need some knowledge about harvesting meat and how long ago the accident happened to judge whether it's usable.

If you know what you're doing you can salvage some tasty meat. Else yeah don't even try.

If I was up the ladder, I would just get the kid to drag the ladder away so I could land on that flat and unimpeded surface below. No need to wait for the kid to try and wrangle the ladder, get distracted, and walk out into the road.

I hit a deer when j was younger and as I was sitting on the side of the road hyperventilating because my windshield was completely covered in blood a car pulled in behind me. I thought the guy was going to check on me but instead he threw the deer into the back of his truck and drove off. Which I thought was a total dick move because I felt he should have at least asked me if I wanted it

Some states require a hunting permit to keep any deer that you hit, but deer that someone else hit are fair game.

I got my motorcycle towed after it got rear ended and the driver talked about how he wanted to ride one, but never would because of all the horrible motorcycle accidents he was called to.

I was only in one other motorcycle accident (also not my fault) and one close call (this one was me riding above my skill level) before not riding anymore!

Some states discourage people from ramming game animals by prohibiting the one who hits the animal from harvesting at all, so only someone else can harvest it.
