He's right about the nazi woman (she's actually just acting! :ssh:). She was hot. I haven't seen Ender's Game so I don't know who that is.

edit: I should've known. It's a young girl. ugh

The Indiana Jones 3 reference makes the timeframe for this extremely weird, but it is possible that they were still a kid themselves when Ender's Game came out. The phrase "at least at the time" would indicate that it was something in their past. Then again, the phrase "until I saw" seems to indicate the passing of some time between seeing Indy 3 and Ender's Game, making you think they were older when they saw it...

I don't know why I'm trying to mind-read some reddit creep, when the original reason I replied to this was to note that the Indy 3 nazi woman played a British villain in RRR. She is great at playing the character you can't wait to see get killed.

I don't know if that was ever officially revealed but that post was super familiar and if I recall the speculation at the time was that the person writing it was either trolling, or more likely, someone with some kind of reduced mental capacity (because of the way they focused on repetition of odd details and responded to some questions literally with seemingly no capacity to realize when people were making fun of them or trying to egg them on)

Here we go again.

Books for adults with lower reading level (29 Jan 22)

quote:

I haven’t read much at all in my life, but it is a deep desire of mine. Due to some learning disabilities / differences, reading has always been difficult for me so I have generally avoided it despite having an interest in it. But I want to try, so I’m looking for some recommendations.

One of the only books I’ve finished in my adulthood was My Side of the Mountain. I really enjoyed the story and I think the reading level was good for me. The length was very digestible. I think I really like wilderness stories but I’m open to other themes as well. I’d love some help finding some other books to try out. I’m guessing somewhere around middle / high school reading level, nothing too long. Thanks!

UPDATE Books for adults with lower reading level (23 Dec 22)

quote:

Hi all! Almost a year ago, I made a post on here asking for some book recommendations that might be good for an adult who struggles with reading. I want to say thank you so much for the tremendous amount of responses I received. They were all so kind and helpful to me. There was a lot of folks who asked if I could circle back to update on how my reading journey is going. So here’s the update!

I read several books this year! More than I’ve ever finished in my entire life. One of them I even finished in only a few days! I’ve dabbled in different styles & stuff to see what I like and what feels manageable. I’ve had good luck with some memoirs or similar kinds of biographical stories. I’ve had great luck with Steinbeck, as was recommended in several comments, and have gone for a few of his shorter novels. I’ve tried reading and listening to books in all the ways that were suggested and have found them all helpful in one way or another.

My biggest achievement was reading Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier, a book I have always wanted to read. It took me all drat year but I read it cover to cover, and loved every minute. Frazier’s descriptions, of the landscapes specifically, are some of the most beautiful, and aching, things I’ve ever heard. I look forward to enjoying other books of his. I’d love more recommendations for similar books & authors if ya got ‘em!

I added many of the books suggested to me here to my list, though I haven’t gotten to many of them yet. I’m looking forward to diving into them more. I’ve used the tips & tools suggested here to find books that interest and suit me. There were so many great resources on my original post that were so helpful to me and I hope others found something helpful in them too. I felt nervous and uncomfortable making that post and all who responded filled me with such confidence and hope that I could enjoy reading. Thank you. So much.

/r/justunsubbed is a pretty bad subreddit for redditors to complain about other subreddits and explain why they 'unsubscribed' to them
there's an uncomfortable amount of "justunsubbed because this subreddit is too WOKE":

most of the rest of the posts are "unsubbed from [meme subreddit] because their memes aren't funny" (all true) or "unsubbed from [anime/art subreddit] because all the posts are way too horny" (also all true)
but occasionally there some funny whine posts

the POSTERS in /r/jizzedtothis are LYING about having JIZZED:

it's cause ai is based on widespread art theft. almost nobody whose art was fed into the ai to be trained on it consented to it and they have no legal protection from it. similar ai generators for music were only trained on non-copyrighted music because if you fed music into it that belonged to music companies and ai returned anything remotely recognisable, they would sue. "validity of ai art as art" is misdirection, people would not give a poo poo if ai art was sourced legally and ethically. instead ai art spits out stuff that has faux-signatures and watermarks because they wouldn't get artists to put their art in willingly, it's all scraped from art sites.

Yeah. AI is getting good at generating portraits and characters and landscapes, but I have not yet seen a picture with a clever idea and good composition.

So at the moment it's more just for generic images and inspiration.

Strategic Tea

Yeah for sure. I think the trouble arises if you just take a scroll through whatever images the algo gives you here: https://www.artstation.com/?sort_by=trending

Like 90% of that will be generic images and inspiration with zero clever ideas. People make a living churning this stuff out for the likes of Riot Games and Marvel movies and maybe get to do some actual stuff with soul from time to time as well.

Not anymore you slackers, better draw on your own time and #learn2code!!
