What's worse: voluntarily ruining your own life and likely ending up in an Eastern European penal system for a non-trivial amount of time, or not getting the last word in a very minor internet argument with a teenage girl?

There has never been a self-own as massive as Tate, it's truly incredible. I assumed Musk buying twitter would be the biggest self-own of the year, but tate comes in right under the wire.

In light of Tate getting arrested by way of pizza box, I gotta wonder: What would we consider to be the biggest Self Own of 2022? Obviously recently we have pizza box narc, but let us not forget that this was also the year that a man tasered his balls to death, and those are just two examples on opposite ends of the year.

While Liz was embarrassingly bad, I think it's a solid toss-up between Alex Jones owing over a billion in damages because he couldn't shut the gently caress up for a month, or Elon Musk paying 44 billion to be an internet troll. Like, Tate failing so badly at starting an internet fight that he ended up in jail is hilarious, but that's a one-and-done deal. haveblue posted:The rapidly chudbraining tech bro is a strong contender It ain't even that he's chudbraining. He went from Obama praising him at an official meeting to all of his dirty laundry getting aired over the course of several years of dodging the law to make all the money he has, causing his companies to hemorrhage even money and news journalists to take a closer look at his racist and insane employment practices. Which looked to do even more harm to him since he can't run an honest profitable business without an influx of government (or gullible VC investor) support to save his own life. Dude has always been a poo poo stain with supremacist views on the low down and he's taking the last refuge he has to stay afloat in the public eye. Which has always been his main way of making money by illegally pumping stocks or promising the moon to gullible people before loving them over with bad investments that he sometimes botnetted them into believing were good. Then he'd rely on his lawyers to save his rear end from heavy fines when the government realized what his latest bout of crookery was about. That, and the sheer amount of idiots and investors he conned means that no one that has money invested in him would admit he was a bad investment unless he made a public rear end of himself repeatedly. It's ironically a situation a lot like heavy crypto investors find themselves in. Cryptocurrencies tend to be a ticking time bomb in terms of worth and volatility, but no holder of crypto is going to admit it since it could devalue their product. So instead they try to gaslight some other schmuck into taking the burden or praying for a moment to cash out at a high gain while running cover for it in a social context. Only in this case it's some apartheid failson turd who hates anyone more capable than him (like that diver who saved the kids in that cavern) selling nonsense promises to rich people who were dumb enough to buy into his pie in the sky snake oil nonsense. There's 50% odds that he bought twitter to try and get in close with all the awful fuckers trying to subvert our elections either through foreign misinformation or at home Republican ____phobia towards minorities only to get (public, probably not privately) brushed off since he's that much of a PR poison pill. He wanted that since that's literally his last way to avoid failing out of one of his latest money making schemes (which it must be said again are highly illegal). TL;DR: He's doing the fintech grifter equivalent of the usual "failed TV entertainer to Fox News anchor that sold their soul to stay relevant" speedrun. What's surprising is that he's so astoundingly bad at it. Archonex fucked around with this message at 05:05 on Dec 30, 2022 |

Santos told a lie that actually has legal ramifications. He is under investigation for lying on his financial disclosure forms. A follow up story by the NYT indicates that his campaign also paid $11,000 in rent for a suburban house for “apartment rental for staff” that he himself was living in alone for at least 3 months and $40,000 on "air travel" for the campaign despite living in the district he was campaigning in. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/29/nyregion/george-santos-campaign-finance.html Additionally, in lies with no legal consequences news, his story about his mom dying during 9/11 has shockingly turned out to be false and she was confirmed to have died in early 2016. I think he might have some kind of actual compulsive mental health issue related to lying. https://twitter.com/FPWellman/status/1608580065050382339 Leon Trotsky 2012 fucked around with this message at 05:57 on Dec 30, 2022 |

So there's a non-zero chance that Tate started the twitter fight because he got GRETA the organization and Greta Thurnburg the Swedish teenage climate activist mixed up.

Apparently House Speaker hopeful McCarthy budged on a previously unbudgable requirement for 'vacating the chair', which is the requirement for people to hold a floor vote to replace the Speaker of the House. Right now its a very high threshhold, but the MAGAfreaks what that to be a very low threshold. He's sold his soul to get the speakers chair, but he's going to be held hostage to the far right if that threshold is low. This next House of Reps is going to be a shitshow. Be careful of what you wish for, McCarthy, you might get it.
