Corgis love bread. And Puro

Did next week's schedule early because I'm kind of sitting around doing nothing while waiting to get a bus so perfect time to kill. Anyway. It's the biggest wrestling week of the year in Japan, or at least 1a with Golden Week 1b. It starts off with Suzu Suzuki's first match in Ice Ribbon since the 23rd January 2022, as she returns for classmate Yuuki Mashiro's graduation. Her retirement is another blow for Ice Ribbon, though at least Tsukasa Fujimoto is expected back in 2023, after the birth of her first child. The ICE×∞ match should be well worth catching, & Shida & Hoshi is a fun team so I'm looking forward to that one too. And then the last show of 2022 in Japan as DDT, Big Japan & some assorted friends come together for the annual shuffle tag tournament, which is always good fun. The team I'm cheering for will be Zero Hyaku, that's 3 top guys in 3 different companies! The first show of 2023 will once again be ZERO1, but sadly this year they won't be appearing on Wrestle Universe so it'll be a while until we get to see this. drat shame, Tanaka vs Kitamiya is some good poo poo. NOAH The New Year 2022 was probably my top show of this year but I don't expect this year's to match it, though there is a lot of fun stuff, just not sure why they had to stick Dr Wagner Jr's kid in the M3K match. But Kaito vs Kenoh is one of the great rivalries in contemporary wrestling, with strong big brother/little brother energy, & they always deliver, & the sight of Kentafuji back together, THE tag team of the 2000s, gets my juices flowing despite both guys clearly not being their 2005 selves. Oh yeah, & it's main evented by a WWE contracted wrestler which is loving wild.

And then we have All Japan & Big Japan with good looking shows on Monday, AJPW, FREEDOMS, DDT & Stardom (Kento vs Nomura for the Triple Crown should be loving tremendous) all on Tuesday, the 4th begins with Tokyo Joshi Pro having a loaded card, including 2 debuts & all the titles on the line, Big Japan with a deathmatch heavy show with Daiju Wakamatsu vs Yuki Ishikawa featuring 2 of their most promising younger deathmatch guys. But the main attraction is of course Wrestle Kingdom 17. The debut of new Young Lion Oleg Boltin, straight from the Bushiroad amateur wrestling team, the rambo for the KOPW23 trophy & an Antonio Inoki tribute match featuring MiSu, Fujinami, Tiger Mask, Kojima, Makabe & Nagata all in the prelims before the main card kicks off at 5pm local time. 8 title matches as well as the final match of Great Muta in New Japan before his retirement in February. It's not the hottest event from a build perspective, White vs Okada & Ospreay vs Omega both feel a little lacking from that perspective, and Anderson vs Tama Tonga has a scarily low floor (the polite way of saying it could be dogshit) but just looking at the card written out & it's hard not to start getting excited.

After that it's a little quieter, but we still have Mizuki Watase making his first defence of the GanPro singles belt, a DDT show featuring 3 fun vets vs rookies matches (Higuchi vs Ishida in particular is juicy), more Stardom & the annual New Year's Dash which is hopefully good at setting up some interesting stuff happening in 2023. Like what's happening with all those ex-Suzukigun guys as far as faction alignment goes.

:darksouls:
very nice of njpw to put Karl Anderson vs Tama Tonga in the middle of the show to signal to us east coast US fans that it is time to go to sleep and catch up on the remaining matches in the morning

i tried to make a quick list of which shows are streaming, all times eastern US -

NOAH - Jan 1 2am - wrestle universe
AJPW - Jan 1 9:30pm - ajpw tv
Big Japan - Jan 2 4:30am - niconico
AJPW - Jan 2 9:30pm - ajpw tv
FREEDOMS - Jan 2 10:30pm - niconico
Stardom - Jan 3 2am - samurai tv
DDT - Jan 3 4:30am - wrestle universe
TJPW - Jan 3 9:30pm - wrestle universe
Big Japan - Jan 3 10pm - niconico
NJPW (Wrestle Kingdom) - Jan 4 1am - njpw world
NJPW (New Year's Dash) - Jan 5 5am - njpw world

reckon I'll try to watch NOAH, some AJPW, Stardom, TJPW, and Wrestle Kingdom. i am glad TJPW continues to run these morning shows on crowded weekends, will be a sad day when they started running more 4pm or later cards (which I think they've done a couple times this year but only for big standalone shows)

e: i just realized i did my date math wrong on this, fixed now i think. don't know how my brain didn't catch "Wrestle Kingdom on Jan 5 doesn't seem right"

It’s a ¥5000 PPV that required a Japanese credit card and phone number to buy so I think the most likely bet is to hope that NJPW World uploads the match

Hello puro thread, please welcome us Dragongate thread refugees back into the fold (I won't have as much time to maintain the thread in the new year).

If you don't know much about DG but you'd like to, my old thread's OP has a bunch of info, including links to my DG content on Youtube.

January show stuff: Cards still TBA for the 1/7 Edion & 1/8 KBS Hall shows.

1/11: Z-Brats vs High-End, Unit Disbands match. High-End has been a big loser unit despite having some of the best veterans in the company. But they've lost so many members to injury, betrayal, or leaving the company that they're down to just YAMATO & Dragon Kid. So two unitless jobbers have been helping them, Takashi Yoshida & Problem Dragon. Yoshida's actually been getting upset wins, but Problem Dragon still sucks and just got his rear end beat by rookies. Z-Brats want to eradicate them because, well, they're heels. They outnumber High-End, but Shun Skywalker & BxB Hulk have had some tension recently, so that might even it out. The Unit Disbands match will be an elimination tag with all members of both units (except probably SBK since he's still in the US, and Kagetora since he's hurt).

1/12: Open the Dream Gate Championship: Yuki Yoshioka© vs Shun Skywalker. Yoshioka is in his first run and being primed as the future ace, so he's been tearing through former champions one by one and having absolute banger matches every time. Shun is from the same 2016 class, and was his roommate on excursion in Mexico in 2020, and even vouched for Yuki's identity when he secretly returned under a spooky dragon mask. But that was before Shun lost his goddamn mind, so now he's an insane cackling weirdo. This is probably going to be an incredible match because both are at the top of their game right now.

I hope the answer is everywhere. He's a legit star who is also independently wealthy and incredibly mercurial. Give me GanPro Ibushi, give me ChocoPro Ibushi, give me Ibushi vs Chihiro Hashimoto at Korakuen Sendai Girls show.

How can fans rightly say BJW Welcome Home was rad and yet simultaneously like Pheromones

DDT continuing to win awards in the “indie awards” despite being part of a company literally so much richer than New Japan that they showed the goddam World Cup this year is comical

Yeah, I did notice that. GanPro, despite having the same ownership at least FEELS indie, but DDT? Nah mate. DDT is the big leagues. All Japan is more of an indie at this point for goodness sake.

Dammit, thought I was done with 2022 wrestling after Syuri/Guila but they keep pulling me back in (e: Big fan of Team MAO coming out to Driver's High, love that song)

Alos saw a GanPro tweet about their placings in the Indie Awards. Wrestle Sekigahara came second under Best Event (fair imo) and 11 year vet HARUKAZE came 4th under Best Newcomer (lol)

anyone making a thread for the noah show? i'm trying my damndest to stay up for this

i didn't watch nearly enough wrestling in 2022 and missed so many MOTYCs, so want to start strong by trying out NOAH in earnest with this big show. probably won't make it all the way to the main event but hoping the undercard is fun
