I actually deeply relate to this one, as my dad loves hockey and I don't care about it, so he bought me a Gritty jersey to wear when we go to games.

I'm kinda digging the art in Archie, I was never into it, so it's fun to read it now.

Jughead always looks stoned or something. And so I also had to figure out what was up with his crown/hat thing

I'm extremely irritated that this is basically the only time we've ever seen Ed express a sincere, spontaneous interest in physical fitness and his wife is making GBS threads all over him because she believes, simultaneously, that pole vaulting is disproportionately dangerous compared to other physical activities and also that it's a dumb sport for babies.

Honestly, if I were in the same type of shape Ed was, I'd be petrified that the pole was going to snap and I'd impale myself on the lower half.

Thimble Theater (August 5, 1939)

One of my favorite little things in old Popeye is when a character will propose or explain something that's inherently goofy and another character will just respond "yes" because it makes perfect sense in context and to them, and the fact that both lines are unpunctuated really sells how mundane and immediately understood whatever's going on is to the characters involved. I love it (and, as an additional bonus, no one sounds like a snarkily cynical Gen Xer!)

As long as we're getting acquainted with Miss Peach, here's a Canadian-produced puppet show version. With children's media, you always find someone who remembers a show fondly, but this is the first one I've seen where those fond memories are because their family owned it on CED discs. Martin Short's in the voice cast.
