Hmm, questions about shows I'm actually watching for once  Azhais posted:How's Three Pines? Dad mentioned he's watching it and looks like it could be interesting. And I do like Molina Watching it because of my mom, and it's decent if you like mystery stories. It's like a TV movie series since each mystery (1 book) is covered in 2 episodes. The pacing is a little fast but Molina's good and the atmosphere is solid. I do think it's a little weird that a central point of the books, from what my mom's been telling me, is the townspeople and their quirks. But the show's moving a little fast and not really building up the town as much as it probably should. NikkolasKing posted:Is Godfather of Harlem any good? I don't think the show has ever really hit those heights it did during the Claire Foy/Matt Smith seasons, unfortunately. It still has its moments, but the closer it gets to parts of history I actually lived through the more I can see the seams.

Season 1 of Legion really was absolutely incredible. The follow-up seasons never quite captured that same quality, though they had their moments. Aubrey Plaza is absolutely incredible in it.

Yes David had done hosed up things and needed to be called to account for them, but releasing the rapist mass murderer dictator in order to do so was so unbelievably stupid that at first I assumed he'd somehow snuck into their minds and taken them over. Season 3 struggles to recover from that, and while it's better, and includes some amazing visual stuff (I'm a big fan of how they showcase the Shadow King moving as a series of photographs through frozen time) it felt like the show was on its last legs and trying desperately to crawl over the finish line. Season 3 does have the Battle Rap though, so you know.... swings and roundabouts! Really though the biggest problem with Seasons 2 and 3 is far less Aubrey Plaza v  v

Season 2 of Legion is utter poo poo and when even me the most pretentious person in this subforum thinks you’re being unbearably pretentious you know something is up 3 was mostly cool. But the idea that either of them are better than 1 honestly got me

I don't much like season one either  The second season is more visually appealing to me tbh. By the end of the first season I was very tired of the show's two or three sets, the second season has those giant green hands and more of those cool physic dance battles (easily the best thing about the first season), so I just find it more pleasurable.

From the first episode, the show keeps referencing that crazy heist of the declaration of independence. And the FBI agents are the same ones from the first movie who couldn't stop that. (That's also how the protagonist gets to meet that guy.) It's very much not a spin-off universe. It feels weird if the references to Ben Gates where unscripted, because that was like 25% of the episode. And he's not the only one who knows about him. They even reference his mother. (Helen Mirren). During the episode he says something like "We've got something cooking, but we're not ready to talk about it." Oh boy people are talking about Legion! From the guy who would write essays after each episode, I'll tell you this: Season 1 is a decent story with one of the best scenes ever made in television history (Bolero, you'll know it when you hear it.) Season 2 is just hosed. It's definitely more visually appealing than season 1 but is senselessly weird for the sake of weird and ended on one of the sourest notes I've ever seen a season end on. Season 3 is wild, has one really phenomenally good episode about alternate dimensions, gets even more visually appealing, and as mentioned before, limps over the finish line like a deer hit by a car. Final episode: The bad guy becomes the good guy by showing his past self the bad stuff he did and he goes "oh you're right I am bad" and becomes good. And then the entire timeline gets reset. It's like a 6 year old wrote it. Individually, the episodes are really entertaining! The problems arise between seasons, when it feels like one set of writers and producers handed the show off to another set of writers and producers with only the vaguest of ideas of where the plot was supposed to go. This ends with an overall poorly written plot held up purely by the really fun bits. Frame your expectations accordingly and it's well worth your time.

So this is a Chat thread, why not babble. Watching Criminal Intent has reawakened my interest in serial killers, something I dropped a long, long time ago. I guess a fair number of people go through this macabre phase where you look into the big names of serial killers. Mine was always Bundy because he's the one my grandma told me abut growing up. But while trying to find reliable sources to sate my rediscovered interest - including having to get this one audiobook on him only available in the UK for some strange reason - it kinda hit me how popular true crime stuff was. At first I wanted to look up this podcast I vaguely remembered hearing about that covered him. I eventually found it was Last Podcast on the Left but I had to wade through so much crap, just like I had to wade through so much sensationalist trash to find real good books on him. Anyway, popular criminals seems divided between mobsters and serial killers and that intrigued me. They're basically the total opposite of each other. Speaking just of generalities here, the "appeal" of mafia stuff is glitz and glamor masking ugliness. Mobsters pursue pretty rational, understandable goals, like money or loyalty to "the family." Serial killers meanwhile are loners (even if they are sociable) and their pursuits are anything but rational. I think they're fascinating because of just how incomprehensible they are to most people. So I wonder if there are distinct segments in true crime fans? If there are any long standing true crime afficionados with insight on this, I'd appreciate it.

I just finished the first season and the first episode of season 2. I'm sorry that it got slightly more linear as the first season went on, but overall it's the best show having anything to do with comic stuff I've ever seen. The musical numbers especially are wonderful. Aubrey Plaza has extremely weird charisma, but she definitely has a lot of it. She's the MVP for season one for me and I hope for more stuff like her silhouetted dance through all the sets near the end of the season. Her face superimposed over the pie is the most Lynchian thing not by David Lynch that I've ever seen, and not because it's cherry pie.

Binge on release or die: this is a bummer to me because many of the shows I watch are already years and years old and I watch them at whatever pace I want. I'm still watching "The Leftovers" and haven't watched a newtome episode since early last year. Plenty of other show from 2022 I'll only get to this year or the next too. what's the streaming exclusive with the longest legs on it, or most seasons rather. Seems like this decision-making model inherently difficult for shows to get that many seasons? Even the most popular shows are naturally going to wobble lower over time as number of fans who just got "behind" or otherwise stopped keeping up with current releases will grow the more fans there are, plus maybe people tuning in for the new thing without having seen all the rest, let alone all in one place. when GoT was big and we'd go to someone's house to watch it and make a little gathering out of it, we had people who jumped in with the latest seasons and eps with some of them going back and catching up at their own paces.

Some of the best practical stunt work I've ever seen on TV. the carriage chase scene in s4 was incredible Black Sails is cool because while a lot of the stuff is historically true, quite a lot in fact, it also serves as a prequel to Treasure Island, but it works seamlessly (probably because the poo poo that happened during the golden age of piracy was bugfuck insane and sounds like its fictional itself)
