I went to look up that slate Dear Pay dirt post and found this.

quote:

Dear Pay Dirt,

My sister refuses to discipline her 14-year-old son. He is constantly acting out and getting into trouble. A month ago, my nephew took my older car for a joy ride and ended up wrecking it. My sister begged me to not go to the cops or the insurance company. I told her it would cost $5,000 to fix the car according to my car guy. She ended up taking the money out of her savings and selling the expensive electronics she was going to give her son for Christmas.

I ended up not fixing the car but selling it as is. With the money, I plan to go on an extended vacation in the new year since I haven’t had one for years. My sister is completely pissed at me. She accused me of ruining Christmas and “stealing” her money. I told her the only thief here was her son and it was high time he suffered some consequences before he gets himself into real trouble. Maybe next time he will think twice if he knows his little stunts with cost him a PS5. My sister told me to shut up and not tell her how to raise her kids. I ended up leaving rather than continuing the argument. This is going to be coming up again and again. Any advice on how I deal with my sister now?

Lmao, I say.

My husband wants to swing, but I’m unsure of it.

quote:

Men of Reddit: why would my husband want to swing? States sexually satisfied, but likes the concept of watching us have sex with other people (him watch me and vice versa). What does this mean?

As the title describes, my husband (35) claims to be sexually satisfied (I am 33). However, he wants another dude to take me to plow town and he wants to do the same to another chick and have each other watch this. We are married and have been together for a while……is there a deeper meaning? Why would a married man want to do this? Just curious and looking for insight from a male’s perspective. Trying not to be closed minded.

TL;DR: Husband wants to swing/taste different flavors/wants me to do the same. Guys: is there something deeper to this?

This is a discussion thread. Please post your thought on the acceptable way to note last read point in a book in essay format and how this relates to the Qing Dynasty reforms of 1905

One way to think about the various methods for keeping track of your place in a book is to compare them to the Qing dynasty reforms of 1905. Just as there are different ways to mark your place in a book, there were also different approaches that the Qing government could have taken to address the challenges it faced.

For example, using a bookmark to keep track of your place in a book is similar to the Qing dynasty reforms of establishing a new legal system. Just as a bookmark helps you find your place in a book and keeps you organized, a new legal system helps to clarify the rules and regulations that govern a society, and can provide a sense of order and stability.

Dogearing the page, on the other hand, might be compared to the Qing dynasty reforms of introducing a national currency. Just as folding down the corner of a page allows you to quickly find your place in a book, a standardized currency helps to facilitate trade and commerce by providing a consistent and widely accepted means of exchange.

Finally, putting the book face-down open to the page you are on could be compared to the Qing dynasty reforms of establishing a national education system. Just as leaving the book open to the page you are on helps you to easily pick up where you left off, a national education system helps to prepare the next generation for the challenges and opportunities they will face by providing them with the knowledge and skills they need.

Overall, it is clear that there are many different ways to keep track of your place in a book, and each method has its own benefits and drawbacks. Similarly, the Qing dynasty reforms of 1905 represented different approaches to addressing the challenges of the time, and each reform had its own implications and consequences.

So AITA for not letting him have a pee spot outside?

WIBTA for putting my elderly mother in a nursing facility against her wishes?

My (48M) mom (70) is living alone ever since my dad passed away a year ago. I don't want her living on her own because it's not safe for her. I think at her age it's best if she has some form of companionship. She put me in charge of her affairs just in case something happens, and as such I have medical power of attorney and I manage her finances. She doesn't have health issues at the moment but at her age it's only a matter of time. I have no siblings.

For her own good, I'm going to put her in a nursing facility this year. She misplaced her keys one day and I'm worried that the next time, it could be something like her Crestor, which she needs to survive. She's also planning a vacation to go visit my aunt in New Orleans, which is totally unnecessary and shows she has bad judgement when it comes to her finances.

My wife has been crying and begging me not to go through with it ever since she found out. She also called my mom, which is exactly what I told her NOT to do, and now my mom is begging me to reconsider. She's also saying she plans to undo what she did, but I've already talked to an attorney and I think I can make my case to a judge if I have to.

Bottom line is this: I've made up my mind and I can't see myself going back on my decision. It was agonizing to come to this conclusion, and I don't want to have to go through it again. I just don't have the emotional bandwidth.

My mom has been asking what she did to deserve this, that she always tried to be a good mother. I told her she was a great mom, and that's the reason why I'm doing this. It's out of love and concern. Now she's saying hurtful things like she wishes she'd never trusted me and that my dad would be ashamed. I think she's just being emotional and she'll come to appreciate me for this difficult decision down the line. My wife is saying I'm a heartless bastard and is saying she can't even look at me right now.

So now I'm wondering, AITA for putting my mom in a nursing home when it's the right thing to do?

70! My parents are 77 and 79 and are entirely normal and self sufficient and irritating and insane.

Dude gets absolutely annihilated in the comments

YTA and fyi, at 70, your mom who has no health issues is perfectly capable of living on her own. So what! She misplaced her keys. Doesn’t mean she has dementia. You are a horrible son and I hope your mother goes to a lawyer and has your power of attorney canceled and disinherits you while she’s at it.

AITA for Having an Important Discussion With My Daughter?

quote:

I’m 34M and have a daughter 10F ‘Callie’. My wife passed away 8 years ago in an accident. I have done my best to raise my daughter and I think I have done a reasonably good job. She also has her grandmother ‘Joan’ (58, my wife’s mother) if need be, although we don’t visit a lot, we live a few towns over and I don’t have a car, but they FaceTime a weekly basis or so.

A few days ago, Callie got her first period. Obviously, I had prepared for this and showed her the products and told her what to do. I had done a bit of research about this so I could tell her about it. I also had a few other topics we discussed about puberty in general, and she learned a lot and I did the best I could.

When we video called Joan yesterday, Callie told her what had happened and how I helped her (they talk about everything under the sun so I wasn’t surprised). But Joan asked to speak to me and she got mad at me, saying she was looking forward to helping her granddaughter and I took away a bonding moment for her as Callie’s mother figure. She had never told me she wanted to talk about this with my daughter, and it just didn’t occur to me to ask Joan to do it; I was her father. And while Callie and Joan talk often, we aren’t the closest. I assume she’s just trying to find an excuse to blame me for something so she can be angry at me, but did I actually ruin something special? I didn’t see the big deal but maybe I should have let Joan know first? AITA?
