PostNouveau posted:It'd be funny if they aren't able to adjourn long enough for people to leave because they haven't been able to adopt rules so if a bunch of GOP left the Dems could just call a session on their own and elect Jeffries. From what i understand, I think you've got it. If enough GOP leave, the dems can call a vote, name a speaker, seat the speaker, set the rules of the session and the GOP can eat poo poo about it. They could say "only a majority of the leadership of the speaker's caucus can call for a vote on confidence in the speaker." The longer it goes on, the more likely that option becomes. The dems just wait for the GOP to gently caress up, and they seem very willing to do so (they've been doing it all week!)

We always knew it started with 5 truly insane people and ~15 semi-crazies. McCarthy isn't actually any closer to winning a majority until one of those 5 flips, those 5 can sandbag it.

I did see WaPo speculating that they'd flipped 11 of the holdouts, so if that's true, there's 8 or 9 people left to get onboard. But McCarthy may, in fact, have come up with a way of castrating himself sufficiently to appease the nutters.
