...are there grades of library card? Am I missing out on high-level Platinum Patron Perks? I know I'm not necessarily using my library to its utmost potential, but I figured that was on me, not because I was locked out of a higher tier.

My God, I went to the library constantly when I was a kid in the 70s & 80s, but I can honestly say I have not set foot inside a library since I graduated college in the 90s. Ahhh, actually I take that back. We moved last year, and my new voting location is now at a local library. When I voted in November, the smell hit me like a pie to the face. How do all libraries smell alike? My wife’s home office smells the same way. Must be something about paper…

I got weirdly into local history and love to go put my face up real close to giant plat maps and smell ancient books in the stacks

The platinum library card gets you access to the mythical Titty Magazines section. It’s true I heard Tommy over in class 3B said his brother totally saw it once

For some reason I always assumed the porno parody Flesh Gordon was cashing in on the fame of the 1980 Flash Gordon film but it actually predated it by six years. It's parodying the 1930s movies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9Bbgxte4dY

Wikipedia says it was a "sex comedy", initially rated X and then they edited it to get an R rating. So probably not actually porn, then, just some tiddies.

I've never seen this one, all the stop motion stuff in the trailer makes it look closer to a "real" movie production than I would've guessed, too.

I've never seen this one, all the stop motion stuff in the trailer makes it look closer to a "real" movie production than I would've guessed, too. The imdb trivia page for this film is a hoot quote:The producers were plagued with financial difficulties and many of the crew members went unpaid. FX man David Allen was so apprehensive about working on the film that he insisted on being paid cash at the end of each day, but his fellow crew members weren't so lucky. After a series of long delays resulting in unpaid salaries, ten of the FX members decided to hold 8,000 feet of the film's effects sequences hostage until the producers forked over their wages. quote:A number of up-and-coming special effects artists worked on the film, including Rick Baker, Jim Danforth, David Allen, and Dennis Muren. The effects ended up being so good that the film was actually in line for an Oscar nomination for visual effects; however, the Academy chose not to give an award in that category that year because so few films had featured visual effects.

After watching the trailer I legit thought they somehow got Ray freaking Harryhousen to work on the FX but Wikipedia says:quote:The towering creature was not originally intended to speak, but it proved so expressive that dialogue was dubbed over to match its mouth movements. Addressed as the Great God Porno in this dialogue, the special effects crew named him Nesuahyrrah, a tribute to stop-motion animation master Ray Harryhausen, spelling his name backwards.

Am I alone in being generally much less interested in a video game if it's licensed from a movie / comic book / television series? I'm glad they didn't get the rights, I probably wouldn't have played it, especially since it was years before the pretty cool reboot.

Licensed games have big built-in audiences from all the fans of the previous media. That makes the game way less risky to develop.

Fun was had by all Lol, that reminded me of a light-hearted prank my college bf, Bob, played on me and my friends back on the early 90's. There's a movie called "Spirit of '76", it's a goofy, campy comedy about the 70's (with a great cameo by DEVO). Fun stoner stuff, as I recall. Anyways my roommates and I had acquired some weed and I asked Bob, who worked for a mom & pop video rental store, to bring it home after his shift so my friends could see it for the first time. Someone else already had it rented, so he brought home "Spirit of Seventy-Sex" instead, and didn't tell us until the credits rolled. And that's how I learned that Ben Franklin invented the vibrator by attaching a "crumpet stuffer" to a kite during a thunderstorm.

Like a movie or tv series, but comic books, not so much. I think it's about how accountable the game will be to the canon or status quo of the thing it's licensed from. Marvel and DC have so much Elseworld/What-If stuff baked into the IP that I don't necessarily think a Batman or Spider-Man game is going to have to be especially limited in that way. I think the Telltale Batman game actually used that to its advantage.
