I found that to be a funny switcharoo. As for the 420 episodes....I always kind of enjoyed them due to the more casual nature of the episode. I believe they did a Game of Thrones scene in one of them that was really funny.

Wasn't Rodgers the only one who had seen it? I kinda got the impression he wasn't bringing up as many critiques as he normally would because he knew Gabrus was hyped to go see it (and indeed leaves the episode early to do so). He did say it was more of the same as the first and that he hopes Cameron doesn't just make Avatar movies for the rest of his career.

What was sweaty about it? They like the craft that Cameron brings to it that elevates things over the marvel conveyor belt. They also said they wished he wasn’t doing avatar movies forever and wished he was doing other new stuff.

Yeah I'm glad people here agreed because the first time I thought these two kind of suck listening to Man Dog Pod was a "Okay am I the rear end in a top hat here what's going on?" moment.

I wish I understood Hollywood Handbook. Maybe it’s because I don’t have the patreon or anything but it seems like every episode starts mid-conversation and I can never tell what the show is actually supposed to be about.

There's a reason why, whenever Carl Tart is on Comedy Bang Bang, Scott asks him if Hayes and Sean ever drop the act. They play two-faced Hollywood types who flatter but also insult the guests. A few guests have had their feelings hurt by the latter. On top of that, they're also extremely open to derailing. A lot of times they start with a concept (a common one is doing the guest's podcast better than them) but if the guest doesn't get on board immediately they will instead spend 20 minutes unpicking whatever they say instead, rather than insisting they go though with the concept.

Even fans of HH loop around on it. I think I posted in this thread about it but the last 15 minutes of an episode a few years ago was them desperately trying to fill time and I just thought to myself “why am I listening to these two guys just talk incoherently about nothing, I’m not even laughing”

if you want a real answer: when the show was more deliberately satirizing hollywood they were making fun of how late night shows like to return from commercial to the host having a little off mic chat with the guest, and also making fun of the sort of rehearsed hollywood stories that celebs tell on those shows

the stories got increasingly silly, the show moved on from its original premise, and the bit has since devolved into complete nonsense

I'd say that Hollywood Handbook has gone through a couple of phases, it was originally "Two guys pretend to be big-shot Hollywood insiders, but talk and act like they may actually just be mischievous 11-year-olds." Then for a while it was "Two guys with a moderately successful podcast big-time other podcasters while talking about how to build a show and audience." Then there was a period when it was just "An interview program where both hosts are actively hostile and pull some kind of weird bad cop/bad cop routine on their guests." Now it's kind of swung back to the "Hollywood power players" thing.

The openings made me laugh so much when they'd pull just the wildest silliest "celebs" in the opening story. I remember one was like "So it was me, so and so, and Vida Guerra" and it jsut made me laugh and laugh so much.
