So, had a great time at Rampage tonight. Totally worth hopping on the 3 hour Amtrak and staying the night. Thought the show mostly over delivered. Had great seats. Mostly around some fun people who’d never even been to wrestling, let alone AEW. So they were even loving Dark.

One moment though stands out above the rest for a thing I’m not gonna forget. Stokely Hathaway, who recently I feel has been proving why people thought he was great, dropped a line that actually shut a lot of the crowd up. At the end of his promo he said “soowoo” which is basically a battle cry for the Bloods. And they’re in LA next week. A good chunk of the crowd went silent. They weren’t responding to him, but you could tell people who were maybe talking to their friend just stopped like, “what the gently caress...” and were turning to people asking if they just heard what they thought they heard.

There was an African American family behind me with a kid, about 4 years old. And they were real troopers about the chanting swears. Telling the kid, “you can’t chant that one” and stuff. I turned and made eye contact with them and they had a response like, “jesus” and you could tell they were glad their kid wasn’t paying much attention to the promo. Don’t wanna say it ruined the show for them. But it for sure took them out of the moment.

For a bit of an education on this, Your Mom’s House podcast were playing videos of wackos on TikTok and found some gang videos and thought “soowoo” sounded funny, so they put it on a t-shirt and kept saying it on the show. The comment section was full of people going, “uh, don’t do that” but they did anyways. LAPD’s gang unit got in touch with them and smartened them up and they pulled them.

Now, I don’t think LA is going to be a shoot out now or something. And think odds of some Bloods looking out for Jungle Boy are pretty low. But I dunno, maybe tell Stoke to keep that poo poo off TV? I’d be more worried for some dumb fan thinking it sounded cool and thinking it’s a wrestling catch phrase and saying it in line at a show and someone walking by takes issue with it. Just seems like the risk isn’t worth the reward. I dunno if that was live and he snuck it in, or TK is too much of a rich guy to know the reference. For sure should be one and done.
