I agree with this even though I am a landlord. We bought a house that we were planning to move to, and rented it out (at way below market rate) while we were temporarily in a different state, and then when we wanted to move back we didn't want to displace the tenants because they're nice, so we bought another house instead and moved into that. We didn't raise the rent at all for like 4 years, and at this point it's around half of market rate, but I still feel like a dick being a landlord even though we're *really* helping someone, unlike when landlords usually say that while contributing to prices being astronomical. Half of market rate is still extortionate IMO. All those fuckers charging market rate must either be absolutely raking it in, or loving terrible at house-management. Or both!
