You can wild camp anywhere in Scotland except the grounds of a private residence or the east shore of Loch Lomond.

Reading that article on the Dartmoor case it sounds like there will be an appeal. To me the reasoning for losing the right to camp sounds pretty weak, but I'm not a team of lawyers fighting for the rights of a poor downtrodden landowner with 4000 acres in Dartmoor and another 16000 in Sutherland.

Was coming here to post about that further kicking of the corpse of the Commons. Dartmoor was the last place in England and Wales where wild camping was actually legal. This statement on the Dartmoor National Park Authority website has a classic Catch-22 in it's last two sentences. Dartmoor National Park Authority, Camping Map posted:The High Court declared on 13 January 2023 that that Section 10(1) of the Dartmoor Commons Act 1985 does not confer on the public any right to pitch tents or otherwise make camp overnight on the Dartmoor Commons. Gonna post this link again which may have been obscured by my word vomit last time. https://www.rowmaps.com/ ROW maps website posted:Rights of way data for 123 authorities in England and Wales have been released with an open licence. This web site can superimpose the rights of way of these authorities onto an underlying map which can be from the Ordnance Survey, OpenStreetMap or Bing. You can ask for a map that is close to a specific place. You can also ask for transport stops (such as bus stops) to be added to the map. Hell, if you can, take away other peoples poo poo (not literal poo poo, though if equipped by all means bury the shite-bird's paper nests). Last year me and a friend provided lights for what we'll call a "pop-up-party" a friend's son organised in the wilds of the Borders. 16 hours of banging beats and the next day we and the kids filled the back of my van with over 15 bin bags of our and others rubbish. Leave it better than you found it.

This reminds me of my first solo bothy trip I did in the Galloway forest park last year, getting further and further from any kind of phone reception and not really registering until later that I had been asked on 3 separate occasions by people I met along the way if I'd made sure to take a physical map. I did eventually find the bothy and spent two great nights out there but let's just say it was a learning experience and leave it at that X_x

Packed my tent and sleeping bag, caught the last train up from Glasgow, marched up the tourist trail to the top and stared in disbelief at all the loving rocks covering every inch of ground. I'd been on the summit 5 or 6 times previously, by a bunch of different climbing and walking routes, but only in winter where everything is covered in snow. Hadn't even occurred to me that under that smooth, white blanket there wasn't anywhere at all to pitch a tent. In the end I had to sleep in the emergency shelter. It was -1°C up there and I didn't sleep very well at all.
