I mean, Acclaim was poo poo in general, but I kind of get where they were coming from, because wrestling games were hot poo poo at the time and they were caught with their pants down when the WWF yanked its license and went with THQ. And since EA had the dying WCW license (lol Mayhem and Backstage Assault), all that was left was ECW. But holy holy holy poo poo, did they put zero effort into those games, and they were somehow even more unplayable than Attitude (which was a broken-rear end piece of junk).

The NWO 2000 collapsed by the time he came back, so they just turned him heel for awhile, then had him lose a match a couple of months into a "win every match or you're fired" angle. Then the company died before they could book a return angle. It's funny to look at how they booked PPVs for their #1 draw in the last two-ish years of the company's existence: Souled Out 1999: Goldberg beats Scott Hall in a Ladder Stun Gun match. Gets attacked by Bam Bam Bigelow afterwards. Superbrawl IX: Goldberg beats Bam Bam Bigelow Uncensored 1999: Does not appear Spring Stampede 1999: Goldberg beats Kevin Nash despite Lex Luger's interference Slamboree 1999: Goldberg and Sting go to a no contest when Bret Hart interferes and destroys Goldberg with a chair. Great American Bash 1999: Does not appear (filming a Universal Soldier sequel, explained by a different beating from the Steiners) Bash at the Beach 1999: Does not appear (filming a Universal Soldier sequel) Road Wild 1999: Goldberg beats Rick Steiner Fall Brawl 1999: Goldberg beats DDP despite copious Bam Bam/Kanyon interference Halloween Havoc 1999: Goldberg beats Sid Vicious for the US championship despite being beaten up by Hall and Nash. Superbrawl Revenge: Does not appear Greed: Does not appear WCW ends So to recap, he hosed around for six months, won the title only to have it vacated the next night, loses his next tile shot because of a Montreal Screwjob homage, injures himself and is on the shelf for six months, comes back only to turn heel, turns heel AGAIN in a worked shoot, and then is inserted into a "win 173 matches in a row in order to get another world title shot, lose again and you're fired" angle that sticks him in a feud with Vince Russo and his proxies Totally Buff, and he does in fact lose and get fired as a result of a midcard tag match that hinged on a random fan turning heel. I also liked that angle where Goldberg can't touch Sid until the PPV and Goldberg is doing his walk out and half way through Sid is like "GOLDBERG HEY GOLDBERG" and you can clearly see Goldberg start to laugh.

Sullivan and Curtis has been working together since the early 80s in Florida and other places. I'm assuming its also why he was brought in to be The Master in WCW for the Dungeon of Doom.

Mike Haynor and Dwayne Johnson both started with their respective companies at nearly the same time, debuting on house show/dark matches under their given names in the spring of 1996. "Prince Iaukea" debuted on TV earlier, in May 1996 but was generally a jobber until he had a "shocking" upset for the TV title against William Regal on Nitro on February 17, 1997. Before that he had victories over The Gambler, Manny Fernandez, The Colorado Crusader, Adrian Bird, and Doc Dean, but had lots on TV to Kevin Sullivan, The Giant, Public Enemy, DDP, Chavo, Chris Jericho, Faces of Fear, and Hugh Morrus (many of them repeatedly) and was 4-18. "Rocky Maivia" meanwhile didn't debut until November 1996 but debuted on PPV and was the sole survivor of his babyface team, overcoming the odds and pinning Crush and Goldust to win. He beat the British Bulldog, Fake Razor, and Hunter Hearst Helmsley in short order and won the Intercontinental title off HHH on a special Thursday Raw on February 13, 1997. It's probably a coincidence and I can find no evidence that Prince Iaukea winning a title four days after Rocky was in any way inspired by the latter, but it's easy to draw parallels and like MRT said they both stick out as overexposed/overpushed title reigns (Prince dropped the TV title to Ultimo Dragon on April 7th, Rocky dropped the IC to Owen on April 28th).

I think the distinction between the two at the time would be that the TV Title, while prominently featured, wasn't considered a big deal in 1997 by any stretch of the imagination, while people saw the IC Title (since it was the secondary title) as a much bigger deal, so people were way quicker to turn on Rocky. As opposed to the apathy I'm seeing for Iaukea right now doing a re-watch of Nitro.
