It's amazing what they can do with computers these days.

That whole thing looks like choreography where if you gently caress up a step you lose an appendage.

IIRC, last time it came up someone explained that this style had been banned for years in the company he worked for, in favour of more automated and way less risky methods.

Some of them are often expected to maintain that pace for a 12 hour shifts, often 21 days on 7 off, as well. too.

The trucking industry claims they're struggling for employees and need government intervention. The oilfield shows what that would actually look like, high wages and a ton of benefits being offered.

There are usually bonuses for footage drilled. Work faster = more money. Each of those drill strings are ~30 feet long. largest rigs can hit 18,000 feet. If they have to change tools and such they have to trip in and out. If they're 300 feet down, 10 drill strings have to come all the way out and go all the way back in. If they're 3000 feet down, 100. In and out and in and out and in and out.

Here's a video of one 24 year old driller running a rig solo. You can get a better sense of what each step is.

Thank you, this makes it so much funnier. In a residential area like this it seems like having a huge mass that's going to come crashing down on even the street would damage the hell out of it, isn't there a better way of doing it for such a situation? In LA I see them usually chop it into chunks and haul away pieces but we have powerlines running every street so that kinda is the only option.

My old “landlord” (owner of the house I was renting a room from) had a big rear end tree that needed to come down. She hired a good crew that delimbed first, then the crane came and they cut ~2ft sections off that the crane lifted and deposited.

YOLO is great for drugs, not so hot for tree felling.

Really, when you think about it, a tree is just a really tall blade of grass.

God what did that idiot think would happen? Did he just look up the tree, look at the longest uninterrupted stretch of ground and go "yep, that'll fit".

also lol at the kind of neighbor that would hire this moron for this job. I'm Saving Money by hiring some random idiot to fell a huge uneven tree capable of destroying a neighbor's house when it falls

Can't have done that because every direction hits something. It's either going into the house, into some fences and across the street, or down across a few houses worth of yards and driveways.

it can be fixed. they'll have to inspect the home to check the extent of the structural damage, replace/repair the damaged roof trusses that obviously got smashed and the roof as well, probably the entire roof if its an older roof. it looks like a split level house so there may be interior damage to the room or rooms on that side of the house - with luck, only the attic space is significantly damaged. the other costly thing is that now an arborist is going to have to come out with the big truck to remove the rest of the tree. we're looking at an easy $40k minimum for repairs. hope that dude who cut down the tree has insurance for this kind of work

The key to the success of the Hydraulic Press Channel is that Lauri is an experienced machinist with a master's degree in material science, so he knows exactly what shouldn't be done and why, and then does it.

A guy with a chainsaw and wedges thinks the tree falls away from the wedges because you're pushing it that way by wedging it while an arborist knows the tree falls where the center of gravity overtakes the cut and decides where to wedge it based on that.

I would imagine this would go just about as well as the Spider-Man musical but with someone losing a limb in every show. :spidey:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTTFTODJdGc

quote:

The comics’ signature sequences of web-spinning and wall-crawling were recreated using computer-controlled cables and winches, but developing the machinery was a long, laborious process, and the results were only marginally less dangerous than an arm-wrestling bout with Doctor Octopus.

While swinging from wires in rehearsals, one performer broke his toe and another broke both his wrists. During the first preview, a carabiner was hurriedly unclipped from a cable and dropped on the head of Natalie Mendoza, the actress playing Arachne, leaving her concussed. Saturday Night Live responded on 12 February 2011 with a sketch about a law firm that specialised in Spider-Man-related workplace injuries. The front cover cartoon of The New Yorker on 17 January 2011 depicted a hospital ward full of battered and bandaged Spider-Men. This wasn’t the kind of publicity the producers had been hoping for.

Geezus. Still running kelly rigs in states? We stopped using those decades ago after one too many deaths.

Also, 12min connection? Yikes. Rig rates are all time related here with no meterage bonus. Thats a loving expensive connection when spread rate is over $100k per day.
