Dobbins deserves better than this. I'm glad he's speaking up.

We should do more designed passes to Dobbins. I'm so sick of these dumb swing plays or whatever for Ricard that teams have scouted out months ago. They rarely work in the end zone. Why can't we scheme some of our TEs open? Everyone will be watching Andrews but Oliver and Likely are around too. Oliver has even made some real nice plays like that catch early in the game. And that good play to Oliver for a TD in the Patriots game.

Maybe Huntley wasn't supposed to go over the top was supposed to sneak through. But I still think it was too far back and we would have done better. You get guys like our line, Edwards, and Ricard so that you can win straight up without having to really scheme anything. And that's a powerful tool to have. But we don't use it.

Don't know what was more amazing out of that Bengals-Ravens game.

The QB sneak at the 3 or 2, which also involved Huntley clearly having no idea of how far away he was. He was arguing with the refs after the play that he had broken the plane and he was like a yard and a half away.

Or the worst 2 minute drill I have ever seen in the playoffs. Someone probably deserves to be fired just off that final possession.

It's been a Harbaugh staple. He did coach under Andy Reid you know :D

But really for a guy who doesn't participate in playcalling you'd think Harbaugh would make it a thing to at least be the best clock manager. But no he consistently botches that too.

The Ravens this year have been struggling since the beginning of the season. It wasn't some injury that messed everything up that was going great. It started as early as week 2 in the second half of the Miami game suddenly the offense couldn't produce a first down and blew a 21 point lead in a snap of a finger. Then on a crucial third down play where a first down was better than a TD of course Roman went for the TD and failed and it let Miami get the gamewinning TD. Then we blew a 20-3 lead against the Bills a few weeks later and didn't get a first down the whole last quarter or something like that. Then blew another 10 point lead to the Giants where we were playing much better than they were most of the game. Then coming out of the bye we weren't quite right against the Mayfield Panthers. Then blew another lead against Jacksonville. Then Lamar got hurt.

But this is what I mean. This wasn't an injury-ruined year like you can say about last year. And sure the Lamar Jackson injury sucked and made it harder. But even if Lamar had played last night and we won, we are not winning at KC. We are not winning at Buffalo. Even with Lamar and Bateman no this team is not winning against those because we can't produce steadily especially with a lead. And that's on the coaches. Namely Harbaugh and Roman. This team has a fundamentally flawed approach. Because aren't we supposed to be REALLY hard to beat with Lamar with a lead?? Remember in 2019 how the story was we just have to get a lead and we're impossible to beat? But maybe can't play from behind(a lie). Now we can't play with a lead either. Because we're run by a bunch of dunces!!!

Also another note yes Cameron did get fired midseason but it was way later than it should have been--he had been garbage for years but Harbaugh wouldn't do anything. And the only thing that got that done was because the Ravens blew a game to Washington and Bisciotti got mad because Baltimore hates losing to them especially under their old name. Baltimore has an inferiority complex against DC with sports a lot of the time and greatly values these games. I had a grudge against them for other reasons we've gone over not the complex thing but I digress. But that's why Cameron got fired here. Harbaugh wouldn't have done it if he didn't feel some heat.

Injuries are a big part of it. 2 years ago they lost there LT and a bunch of key role players. Last year they lost everyone. This year they lost over 100 combined games of their top two RBs, top two WRs, starting secondary players, starting defensive and offensive lineman and of course Lamar Jackson.

Yanda retiring after 2019 and Stanley's injury in 2020 definitely did set this team back a bit. Roman's stuff is dependent on having a dominant line that's consistently winning battles and losing two top shelf guys like that hurts big time. But he failed to adjust. And now we have a good line again and he still fails.

Yes and I mean sometimes it works, it's not a bad way to get the occasional first down but as a play to run inside the 5 it's total stupidity, never works, and teams are always well prepared for it. It looked like even if the pass had been completed he would have just been dropped for no gain. A wasted play.

So many of Roman's plays are just a waste. Like those constant screens to Marquise Brown last year that statistics showed were by far the worst WR screens in the entire NFL. Yet we did them over, and over, and over, and over again. I have a hard time imagining anyone else can run an offense that handicaps itself by throwing so many downs right out the window.

Ravens are injured every year. It isn't bad luck, it's a combination of how they coach camp/practice and what they prioritize in drafts.

A lot of teams like the Niners have the coaching to overcome it but, as Kawalimus points out, the Ravens do not.

This is the kind of thing why I say I don't respect any coach until he shows me he deserves it. There's just too much of this type of poo poo out there. I assume they are incompetent until proven otherwise. Even if my dream comes true and we get Dorsey he will also be subject to this evaluation.

Another crazy thing about the WR screen thing is the whole argument the article was making was that the WR bubble screen or what have you is a bad play to begin with and teams should reconsider ever doing them. But among those plays the Ravens screens to Brown made all the other ones look good by comparison. You'd think the Ravens coaches would notice. But nope. That's support that my hunch of the Ravens never doing any real gameplanning and mostly just doing random stuff is probably right.

Just now looking at the stats from last night and my god in heaven. We beat them in almost every category statistically. Huntley even has more yards per completion than Burrow, higher QBR, 92 QB rating compared to Burrow's 99. Even if you had told me we won the game I NEVER would have guessed this, against that WR corps and with what we have that it would look like that.

More first downs. More yards, and both in rushing and passing. Fewer penalties. +1 in turnovers(edit: Minus one sorry I read it wrong.). More time of possession.

gently caress you, John Harbaugh and Greg Roman.

More insanity. Unreal!!

Goes along with how all other teams who had 10 point leads through their first 11 games had one loss at most. Most had zero. The 2022 Ravens? Four losses!

Against the Browns in week 15 we had 198 rushing yards and lost by 10 with only 3 points scored and were the first team in like a decade to have ever done that.

In week 2 against Miami we blew a three-TD lead in the 4th and lost in regulation and were the first team in something ridiculous like 700 games to have done that.

How much do we need to see before we accept this isn't the result of some unfortunate injuries or other bad luck but a fundamentally flawed approach to gameplanning and playcalling?

I think what they were trying to do was run time down so that if the Bengals got it back there would be no time left for them to do anything. But they got a step ahead of themselves and let way too much time run down too early.

I actually agree with the approach to that and it's something I generally advocate doing, working the clock better. But again they got a step ahead of themselves. Plus that holding penalty on the Hill run made it blow up in our faces. You still need like 10 or 15 seconds more than the potential bare minimum even if it might benefit the other team. Because you have to give yourself some room for error.

Maybe for the first two huddles, but the one that brought it down to 34 seconds? It wasn't even first and goal! There was potentially 8 plays left to make.

We didn't "almost steal a game". We should have won. 364 yards to 234 yards isn't a stolen victory. It's a game you should usually win. We lost it. Because of dumb coaching decisions. The Bengals stole it because of our stupidity. And credit to them for doing so!

If they had beat our asses the other way around and the score was the same then fine I'd accept that. But no. The Ravens should have won this game.

Refer to the earlier post about how the Ravens became the first postseason team ever to outgain their opponents by 120+ yards in four straight games. They are 1-3 in those games. And the other crazy stats cited. If that's not bad coaching and leadership then I don't know what is.

In my opinion the bengos mainly won on one lousy play which was something like a 10 point swing at minimum. You can blame coaching for the play calling in the red zone but mostly Huntley needs to know where he is on the field and not do stupid poo poo with the football.

I think just flat out blaming Jackson without any consideration for the situation is a BS take. Considering the most rational thing to do from a football perspective is to tag Lamar, all the smoke that the relationship seems to be broken is relevant.

Crazy to think how much better off the Ravens would probably be if the Browns didn't give Watson his contract.

Or maybe we need to put the ball not in the hands of the backup QB(who we try to call plays for exactly like Lamar) and put the hands into our short yardage specialist RB or our well-performing Ray Rice reincarnation, behind one of the league's best offensive lines and an excellent fullback. Maybe put your actual best players in the position to win the game and not a guy who is not even really meant to see the field.

I don't think anyone here is "flat out blaming" Jackson; it's just further evidence that there's a rift between him and the team. The innocuous "team policy" explanation doesn't pass the smell test.

Re: Ravens chat, Lamar not going is clearly a way for him to signal dissatisfaction with the Ravens. Whether it's over his stalled contract talks or he feels like he was pressured to play on a bad knee and that got him angry or whatever is academic. Letting Lamar walk would be an absolutely disastrous decision, in any case.

And, personally, Dobbins throwing the coaches under the bus doesn't really bother me. I agree with....Kawalimus? poo poo, really? Ok...I do: the Ravens should have won that game, but poor play calls in the red zone and some absolutely rancid clock management gave the game away. Dobbins just lost a playoff game his team should have won, I understand his frustration, but it also suggests to me that he doesn't feel like the coaching staff listens to him or other players' concerns.

Or if Huntley does a normal QB sneak they score a TD on that or maybe the next play and none of this conversation happens.

Except that's EXACLTY why you don't go with the backup QB in that sort of key situation, he's a backup BECAUSE of those issues to begin with. He's not Lamar and he doesn't have a great arm. He's kind of clumsy which is evident on every play where we try to run him like Lamar and he stumbles around. You can't just say "well play like a better QB" when he's NOT a better QB. That's why he's a backup!

What do we have though? A top O-line. Great RBs. A good set of TEs. And maybe even the best trash bin WR around Demarcus robinson :D
